bandit ambushes sounds like a good idea. and perhaps you can fire arrows and magic while in the carriage to fend them off

Exploration in this game is key.
I don't disagree, but it gets frustrating when you think you're on a path, only to discover it ends at a cliff (Lydia has pushed me off twice now). LOL.

Another +, which I complete forgot about:
+Can we please see a return of the spell, drawn weapon combo? I miss being able to heal myself after a battle with my read-to-go health spell Oblivion spoiled me to.

As for the carriage ride commentary, it's nice to see quite a few actually find this option pleasing. I felt weirded out putting it in the list, not realizing other games did it.

Makes me happy.

Well, time to go. There's another blood dragon needing an ebony diet.

I don't mean any insult to Beth, but i've never understood why people thank developers for games. To me it's always been business, they release a product that I buy. I mean, I've never seen people thank an auto plant for their car. If the product was free or somthing, that would be different, but thank yous imply that something was done out of a kindness in the heart .

Which is really sad, because it's not done enough. I thank many businesses who create products and services which, to me, go well beyond what I paid for them. You've been a gamer for a while, right? How many titles can you truly name off which goes well beyond the $70 price tag. This is surely one of them, and I also thanked 2K for Bioshock, and Ubisoft for Assassin's Creed, just to name a few (of the really well-recognized games).

I've also sent dissastification emails too, such as to Big Huge Games for their cheating randomizer in Catan.

Without feedback from people, how are studios (even publishers, who pass the info along to retain the relationship) going to know they're doing something right or wrong?

To me, remaining silent, especially when the $70 wasn't worth it, is not an option for me.

PS: I did thank Dodge for the Stratus I bought years ago. I was hesitant over their claims of "quality improvement", but hey... they were right with this car. It's one of the two Stratus vehicles still in operation. ;)

Real time carriage ride would be awesome, like taxi's in GTA.
Press A to instantly arrive at your destination.
Press B to dismount carriage at any point in the journey.

... svcked all my free time and wishing I were really in the game. Reality svcks.

Having just come off of Oblivion a short while ago, I finally purchased Skyrim and told my wife "Sorry, dear, you're about to lose me again for another 300+ hours."

For that, I have to say Thank You. This game is truly beautiful, both in game play and in visuals. With so much going on, I can easily forgive the very few "bugs" I've come across.

Since we all know there's another game in the making, I'd like to take this opportunity to offer some options to the team for possible inclusion in the next version. Hopefully, this doesn't sound dissastisfied with the game, not at all, but a few tweaks will make things ... easier.

+If the next version allows us partners again, I'd love for the ability to allow them to ride the horse with us. I know they don't "get lost", but it's always nice when they're around when dragons just drop from the sky without warning. They make for great targets. >:]

+Please adjust the stamina of the horse to be far greater than our own. It's really weird to only get a few seconds from the gallop before it slows to a crawl again.

+I loved the armory opition in the Windhelm house. Can you make it bigger next time? I love keeping special weapons I've earned as trophies and displaying them is really nice. Oh, maybe not a house, but an armory we could buy? Yeah!

+A menu option of "Soul Gems" would be tremendously helpful rather than grouped under Misc. If this is a burden, a renaming of the gems so they're grouped together, like the Spell Book: [type], would also help. I don't add them to my favorites because of all the possible types there are. :(

+I was a little surprised the carriage ride was another fast travel tactic which also takes my gold. Can the next version actually display the ride? That would be sweet! (just make sure it doesn't lead us to another beheading  )

+In the compass view, can you add a small dot to icons of places we've already cleared out. This would REALLY be helpful so I'm not constantly going into the map to check.

+Sepaking of the map: This is the only disappointment I have with Skyrim. The mountainous terrain has been difficult to navigate (I'm on a main road but to get to the top lies on the other side, and that map doesn't show me a path, and I can't count the number of times I've had to backtrack to find one) and without paths/roads clearly outlined, this map has been useless to me when I travel. I rarely fast travel, taking advantage of the wonderful attention to detail this game delivers, so a 2D map is, for me, priceless. Either that, or let us steal the map that's hanging in the wizard's quarters in Whiterun on a future patch?

You are sworn to carry our burdens, after all.

That's my list. Pretty short, huh. Yep, that's pretty much the only things I'd like to see improved with... hmm... where will the next game take us. Heck, if the next version of consoles are that powerful, we'll see all of Tamriel, won't we.

Thanks for reading, and again, a huge thank you to everyone who helped bring us (clearly) the game of the year for 2012.

Some good ideas, here. The map is my biggest problem with Skyrim (other than those that complain about it being a bad game because they've grinded skills and broken their own game or become overpowered by doing every quest available and complain it's boring), it's in serious need of fixing. However, I've resorted to using the sign posts to get around and it's not taken anything away from my game experience; I'd go so far as to say it's added to it.

I literally cannot fathom how anyone can stand playing Skyrim on consoles at this point.

I play on consoles all the time because I'm something of an achievement wh*re. But with the mods available, I might be tempted to get a decent gaming rig and do both. Use my console for achievement hunting and the PC for RP, perhaps.

with stuff like this coming to fruition it just seems foolish, really: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAALSMnkt9w

Foolish is probably the wrong word after all the majority of PC games don't appeal to individuals who use consoles. That being said, I am picking up my alienware next week. Sweet.

I agree with this sentiment. I used a site for buying PC parts for the first time once. Was about to buy a mobo bundle but wanted more info, so I went on to the live chat. Guy there was a breath of fresh air. Didnt play me about, told me exactly what I was getting, what svcked and what was good. I emailed them to thank them, suddenly I get the manager emailing me to thank me for thanking them, and saying that if I ever need anything, get to her on her personal email. Needless to say I did, and still do.

Same goes for games. If the community is active in positive criticism to make a game better, the devs will always respond, and give a little back too.

I suppose people thank devs for games because the satisfaction obtained from the game exceeds the price they paid for it, so as to speak.

"I thank you for my excess satisfaction gained"

Heh.

Good honest advice goes a long way. I used to shop at The Bass Centre in London, before it shut down. I was going to buy a Warwick bass for about £1000, but the guy said to try this other one, a Lakland (I had never heard of them). It was £250 cheaper, brand new and blew the Warwick out of the water in every single respect, from playability to sound.

He also told me that warwicks strength lay in their head units, which was also very true if little known. He then knocked money off when I bought the set AND threw in a speaker cab (ashdown!) for free, totally off his own back. They had my unswerving loyalty from there on. RIP bass centre :(

It may be a business and they may get paid. But anything creative becomes art to me. I did film making in uni, still make short films now, when I am creating them, they are my baby, when something goes wrong it gets me down.

When its all edited and polished, reaction from viewers is everything, if I get a ton of criticism, well it doesnt feel good. But if that criticism is constructive, then as much as it doesnt feel good, next time, my work is better and I appreciate that person taking the time to point out my flaws. Its very hard to see negatives on something you create when you spend so much time with it.

So when we thank Beth for the game, and/or tell them the things we dislike while keeping it constructive -not ranting for money back or being insulting-. For something these guys spent hours of their lives making regardless of being paid, then it is appreciated and feels worthwhile.

Honestly, to me, someone coming over to me and talking to me about how they enjoyed my film and talking in depth about characters I created, that has more meaning to me than making it into a festival. As I'm sure a group of gamers on here thanking Beth means more than awards.

I missed this the first time going through this morning, but allow me to shed some light why I changed (and I won't mention the DRM issues, they're obvious).

Hardware requirements kept getting excessive. Want to play "X", you need [hardware 1, 2, and 3] for optimal performance. I've learned "optimal" really means "required". At the time I decided to part ways with PC gaming, I found new love with trackballs, and no matter what I tried to do, it seemed many games were hell bent on making sure the "typical" mouse control was used. The biggest problem I had was the pointer would just flip across the screen. Movement was aweome, but what would be the point if I can't walk where I want to?

I will admit I miss the awesome customization PC games offer, but that's no longer an option for me to return to PC gaming. I don't dispute the limited options console controllers gives us, but I've no complaints (other than when they try to get a controller to do too much).

I'm glad you're enjoying the game on PC, but it's just not for me anymore.

Of course, how silly of me. Ice cold mead it is.

My game play doesn't feel at all limited by the use of a controller. I find controllers easier to use for games like Skyrim because everything I need is right there. I can compare this to Morrowind, which I play on PC, and although I am enjoying the game, I find it hard to pick up and play because of the controls; too many buttons to remember and having to use WASD for movement? It's almost as if you need three hands to play some games on a PC, as well as an eidetic memory.

I would love this!

And being able to have conversations with the carriage driver would be neat as well.

(Yeah, yeah, I know...) There's a mod on Steam site called "scenic wagons." Not sure what it does, as I haven't checked it out, but by the name it makes a carriage ride take place in real (game) time. And talking with the driver would be interesting: "You'll notice a dragon coming in from the south. Oh, don't worry, our carriages have an Impervious Shield Against Everything, so we'll be fine. Let's watch as this dragon gets killed by the giant."

"Say, could you steer the wagon closer to the fight? I want to absorb the soul. Here's five Septims."

"Sure, no problem, but it's gonna put us late getting to Markarth, and I'm anxious to sit in my wagon outside the city doing nothing for weeks at a time. Make it ten, and you've got a deal."

"Ten? Never mind, it'll be there later. Say, is that an Imperial vs Stormcloak battle going on by that big pile of rocks? Do you have any mead? What time is it? I'm hungry. Mind if I smoke back here? Anything to read, this is really boring. Wait, I gotta pee, pull over. Ah, good, saber cat, be good to stretch my sword arm a bit. HEY, COME BACK HERE YOU SON OF A B1TCH, i PAID FOR THE WHOLE TRIP!"

"FOOS RO DAH!" (Stupid driver, doesn't know who he's messing with.
