Takes a master to play on Master

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 7:53 am

The more we learn Skyrim's skills and systems, the stronger our characters become and at some point, one may find everything's just a bit too easy. I love how customizable everything is. I had this happen and nudged up to Expert for the first time ever in my last game. Then I went into a dungeon that spawned an ungodly number of deathlords and had the fight of my life. It was frustrating at first, many deaths, and I thought it was more than I could handle but I had the Wabbajack on me and used that and finally won. It took a while but it sure felt good. I may try starting out at that level next game just to see what happens but if it's not fun, I'll bump it back down. :tes:

Sounds dull, your not going to last long, practically everything is going to one or two shot you.

On the contrary, a reasonable player who plays in DiD mode will invest a lot more on health so that at least he does not get one shot. If something does not one-shot you, you can in theory survive the battle by healing yourself before you get hit the second time, as long as you have enough potions or magicka. I imagine the situation like that will be a lot more exciting for a DiD player, while a normal player would just get annoyed by having to reload 50 times.

And if you want to play the hardest meanest mode. Play Master + Shirt Tunic + Cloth shoes + Hard Core + Fists + Dead is Dead + Uninstall Skyrim .. then Install it again and start a new character.

lmao, WTF?

I only play on master, playing a sword and board is by far the hardest build I have done so far ( currently playing )
Pure mage was easy but very tedious managing magikca until I got 100% destruction cost reduction ( lots of kiting and pot usage )
Sneak archer was mostly easy but dragons, mages and other archer could 1 shot me.

It is a good idea to try and focus on combat related perks for the lower levels and do not level up skills you wont be using as you will soon find the enemies have too much health for your weak damage output.

I play on master, but I RP so using potions mid battle would be a definite no no for me. Guess healing is an option, and one i use within my RP.

But so much is going to whoop your behind, bears, ice wolves, saber cats... not to mention dungeons. An to be honest your not going to be able to stack health quick enough, could end up being extremely frustrating.

Right. There's a difference between a challenge and churning out 3-4 new characters a day. I've done several DiD characters and the longest one of those lasted was around level 17, with most of that being on Adept and the dying part coming on Expert. Doing DiD on Master would be stupid.

I've played on Master for over 100 hours now. It was way easier than I believed, ridiculously even, since if you just avoid your enemies' attacks and use stealth it's no different from Easy.

But the only way to improve the difficulty system is to make the AI smarter or alter gameplay elements. If turning up the difficulty just turns the enemies into damage spongs it's more boring than challenging. I greatly prefer Skyrim's difficulty system over Oblivion's.

except for the fact that it takes an extremely long time to hit level 40 on Master difficulty, as it already takes a considerable amount of time to hit level 40 on the default settings (20-30 hours without utilizing exploits).

I feel that leveling up is actually quicker on Master - I can get to level 2 through the tutorial dungeon, and like level 6 or 7 by the end of Bleak Falls Barrow, just because with enemies having more damage, you do more hits, so you get more experience.

Okaaay i've never had such trouble with master difficulty it's quite easy compared to many other games IMO well until enemy lvl scaling decides to annoy you and you stand before a enemy who is 6 higher lvls or more.

Tried the non-novice difficulties and have trouble in them. I play Skyrim for when I want to relax more and I'm terrible at dodging stuff. Which is the exact reason I hate most duck and cover shooters.
