How do you keep multi character saves?

if you have only 1 character you should have at least 3 autosave files. you could just overwrite one of them.

I tend to only play through one character at a time. I role-play, so I often don't save before attempting risky things, I deal with the consequences should I foul something up. While I'm playing, I usually rely on my three autosaves in case of death and when I've finished for the night, or reached sufficient progress, I fire off a hard-save. Generally, I create a new save game every 10 levels, or whenever starting a new branch of quests, only as a precaution against bugs. Once I take a character as far as I want them to go, and if they made it through relatively glitch-free, I'll retire the character and delete all their saves except for one (but only if I really like them). Then I start the whole process over.

At any given time, I have 3 autosaves, 1 dedicated save from the carriage, 1 save for each retired character, and 5-10 saves for the active character.

Also, I'm on the XBox.

P.S. I very much miss the ability to name your saves as in Morrowind. Can't understand why they did away with this...

How is saving on console any different than PC? Do you not just either save over an existing save or select new save?

It works the same way, except you can change the folder path of the saves from the ini file, and thus have different folder for each characters' saves.

On the PS3 I make two new saves when I start a character. After that I just pay attention when I’m saving, so that I save over the right character’s old saves. I also pay attention when a character dies and I’m deleting their saves. I’ve never had a problem.

I must be odd as I have 15 saves per character. If my current character has saves 1000 to 1015 and I make a new one I just use New Save until I get to 1030. Then after that I start rewriting over saves starting with 1016, 1017, etc... I know if a save is from a different character if my save numbers have a large jump between them and it looks like this:

2356
2355
2354 <-- new character
2197 <-- older character
2196
2195

And there is always the image w/ character name and level off to the side that shows up when you put a cursor over a save name, unless that is different on consoles, to help see if you are saving over another character. (I'm on PC)

I have one XBOX profile per charachter.

Same here, but on PS3. Very simple.

This thread can help with naming characters to keep saves separate

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1372828-is-there-a-way-to-relabel-a-save

Of course, this only works on a new character. I think you also have to do the whole cart ride too. And, it is not the name of the save, but the label on the save in the list that is effected by this technique.
