They're my personal favorite because I think they're the only race that has ever been designed "right," imo.
What I mean is, Altmer is typically the only race that feels unique. While most of the other races get stupid daily powers or very minor conveniences (disease resistance, poison resistance, an element resistance), the Altmer get an incredible benefit and (save for Skyrim) an incredible weakness. They play differently in everything they do, with more offensive capabilities but usually very poor defense.
In Skyrim they lost their incredible weakness (I say this is a mistake) but at least, again, they're the only ones with a significant, constant benefit as their benefit is the equivalent of 5 bonus levels worth of stat points.
I also tend to ignore their arrogance simply because wtf it's just so poorly executed. I can't really explain it, but when I walk by a Thalmor soldier and he gives me some condescending, arrogant speech, I don't hate him and want to kill him, but rather I just think "wow this game is poorly written" and hell I'm almost tempted to like them simply out of defiance of...I feel like the game is trying to pick my enemies FOR me by making the "enemies" so over-the-top evil that I have no choice, and I'm tempted to take their side just in defiance of such a linear decision-making system. If that makes sense.
