96 bones in a dragons body

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:06 pm

...Well...since they are Humans I'd say the same amount as Humans. xD

Ahh, but the "humans" in Star Wars could use the force. So really just because they're called humans in the Elder Scrolls does not mean they're identical to us in every way.

For a fair comparison, how many bones in the skeletons (the monsters I mean) of Skyrim?
well unless trolls only have bones in their skull that is a very hard question to answer

We could find out how many bones are in the human body too (in Skyrim), there is plenty of full skeleton corpses lying around. :)

And really, who needs bones when you can use magic to fly around and be immortal.

There's no way anybody could count every bone in leftover skeleton of the dead dragons. Every bone wouldn't be visible from the outside.

you do know that the dragon's hide vanishes when you steal its soul, right?

I counted the bones on the first dragon mirlumlmir (spelling) and came to a conclusion that there was 96. Yes it was a skelaton. It only took 10-15 minutes:)

They do! Horns are solid bones! Unless they are filled with somthing other than bones, then they are not solid bones. However, as long as they do not have another substance inside of them they are indeed solid bones.

Some horns are made from compacted hair, but I'm talking about mammals. Not too sure about reptilian horns.

the real question is... do they have a funnybone?

Great question. I'm sure someone can mod one in, could be interesting

For a fair comparison, how many bones in the skeletons (the monsters I mean) of Skyrim?

I lost count at around 355. I think my first problem was fighting a bunch, first.

That didn't make any sense to me, but in the real world (not necessarily in Skyrim) the horns of most creatures have a small bone core, but are surrounded by a thick keratin coating (keratin being the same protein that human finger nails are made of). The keratin makes up most of the horn, and is what you see, so in fact horns are made of very little bone.

Did you count the separate teeth as bones? Did you get the tiny inner ear bones, those are real hard to find...

I love this thread. It taught me something about dragons in Skyrim.

I never even thought of counting the bones. This will be part of my zoologist character. He will be an Argonian who is most interested in dragons. I must go create Dr. Bone. I shall show everyone that a scientist can exist in Skyrim!

One would think that someone somewhere at some time would have counted the number of bones in a reptile or lizard and written it down. One posting I saw in the web, the person stated that Reptiles can have "millions" of bones, another one said 200. Those were the only two that I found specifically addressing reptiles. Animals seem to range from 200 to 350 bones (a chicken is said to have 307, but I have never chewed on that many bones eating a chicken).

So, I would say that dragons probably have more than 96 bones, if they existed. But, the game gives them 96 to keep the frame rates reasonable.

Most horns are simply keratin over a bone core which grows out of the skull. I wouldn't suggest they're separate bones.

Certainly, I'm saying that even when the body is reduced to just a skeleton held together by cartilage, ligaments and tendons and such, even then some bones would be covered by others. The skull in itself is made of more bones than can be seen from the outside. To count them all you'd have to be able to actually dismantle the skeleton. Some bones are very small; think about the bones in the inner ear, after all.

Here's a cattle skull: http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/88460/88460,1178210206,6/stock-photo-cattle-skull-3218800.jpg Think about how you'd have to be able to take such a skull apart to count all the bones composing it.

Somebody was mentioning horns; some animals have bony cores to their horns, like cattle, but others, like rhinos, do not. Rhino horns are made of hair, I believe, despite being thoroughly deadly. Ceratopsian horns were definitely keratin over a bony core, though.

I meant the model  Does it have the correct number of bones? And if not, can we use it as a scale? Are skeletons scaled down in bone number?

You...actually took the time to count each and every bone and joint?
...GO...OUTSIDE...

Yes, because spending 10-15 minutes investigating a curiosity totally validates the "go outside" argument. Get a life. Do you always just attack somebody like that?

I won't believe a word you said, unless it is the same as the number officially released by Bethesda.
