Can Mods Make It In Consoles?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:35 pm

Mainly it has to do with MS/Sony being closed platforms, and the possible issue of a console user trying to use a mod that does to much that could max out the system. It is possible but most of your mods will work on console with little issue.

Maybe Bethesda could do something like have a contest where the top 10 mods get made as official DLC for consoles. Maybe have some prize money involved if Beth can reach the one(s) who created said awesome mods.

I believe someone asked Tod in an interview why they don't do something like that, and I believe he said they don't really want to be the ones publishing user mods.

Performance of the console has very little to do with it actually.

The RWT, HD 2k textures, ENS, and PP injector disagree. Even they give my PC a workout, and it's a Olympic jump over the 360. They would slow the 360 to a crawl and possibly even cause damage.

I didn't say it didn't have anything to do with it, I said it has very little to do with it. Your standard mods that don't increase texture size or change significant things that cause huge FPS loss will work just fine. Which is 90% or more of most mods.

Those mods would have a lot more than just very little, but what would you consider a standard mod? The mods i mentioned are some of the most downloaded and endorsed mods on the Nexus and very popular.

Whenever consoles update Bethesda knows whats in your Skyrim file. You can only do it if your Xbox isn't connected to the internet.

False. I may or may not have a heavily modded xbox 360 skyrim save, and this save (that i may or may not have) has yet to be caught by any updates. I think its been through 2 updates now.

So its either a false statement or they are slacking.

Mods like Dragon Bone Weapon Pack, Horse Armors, & Auto Unequip Arrows. Not injectors or high def texture packs... just your regular mods that add things or change things.

You just haven't been caught yet, doesn't make it false. I do know that they do check for these sort if things if your connected online... not saying they have a very good way of detecting it.

Seems like if they were going to detect it they would have by now.

You have to remember that unlike an online game moderation to your game doesnt affect other people. I dont see why they would bother with it.

Not really saying they cant. I just find it unlikely that they do.

Achievements is the main reason. I remember reading an article on this, so I know it does happen... but I think they only look for it every so often, not all the time.

I think you're getting at just the mods who are under a few megabytes.

If they can find a way to add them, that would be great, but I'm not holding my breath.

Agh yes achievements. I completely forgot about those. One of those thing you get on the first playthrough and then forget...

Maybe they will scan with the Dawnguard expansion. I remember my modded Oblivion characters getting wiped out with Shivering Isles.

Time to back up my saves.

No, I'm not... injectors or texture packs effect FPS very much, which is what you stated. Same if you had a mod that spawned 1000 cabbages rolling down a hill, to much at one time will effect the FPS. Most mods however, do not do this... size is irrelevant. They would be concerned about these few mods that would push the system to far. However, BS has already stated and verified that on a dev console mods on the 360 and PS3 work just fine.

Pretty much, almost every mod in the steam workshop could be added to a console with little issue.

Ah if only people would listen it's really very simple you just have it like steam workshop only you click a button to upload it to a xbox/ps3 version of workshop problem solved assuming ms and sony dont mind.

There not actually using the Dragonbone weapons mod. It's gonna be the original design of Bethesda. And if Beth used other peoples mods they could be sued.
I kind of figured that. I was wondering if they can do the same for others. Also, I've heard they hired some of the modders from Skyrim.

Hmmm.. user created content? Not being allowed on xbox or ps3? Little big planet and Trials hd come to mind, not to mention all the indie games.

A general discussion on whether Bethesda would allow mods to come to consoles is okay. Talking about or admitting to breaking the Xbox's EULA and doing it yourself is not, and is a bannable offense.
