Using flames spell on a lock will make it easier to pick?

Actually I've read that in a book in Skyrim. I believe that it was located in the Ratway in Riften. However I don't believe that it worked

Its not ridiculous at all, considering it is described in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Advances_in_Lockpicking.

So give the OP a break, you can fault him for the fansite instead of getting it in-game, but that is all.

I dont know if it actually works though. I always assumed it didnt, but Ill take a test next time I see a master lock.

Wouldnt do to well to burn your hands trying to get a hot lock open only to find 5 gold and a lockpick inside.

No, what they are refering to is a staff called Trollarox's Lock Breaker which when cast looks like a regular flame spell but when cast upon a lock it lowers the lock level, for instance cast it on a Master lock and it becomes an Adept lock ect.

I thought it was called Trallorax's Lock Breaker

That's more ridiculous then foxes leading to ore.

I just came from that thread, so this is by far the best answer yet.

I read it online as well, and I also read it in that book, so I actually assumed it did work. Never had to try though since master locks take 5 pick max.

I've seen a Mod that shows you exactly where the pick needs moving to in order to open a lock. For Novice Locks the margin of error is large and for Master Locks the margin of error is tiny.

So, someone using that mod needs to check the size of the zone without and with a torch held nearby to see if the size changes. That'll answer the question I guess.

That doesn't even make sense. If you melt the keyhole, how would you pick it?

I see this meaning to heat up the lock and not executing thermonuclear meltdown. In RL stuborn metal parts are heated to free them up. I have applied a butane torch to many metal parts over the years to get them moving again.
