One character since release date?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:36 pm

After about a month of playing Skyrim with one character for over 200 hours I realised that I had had enough of him and that there was no story or personality to him. I created another character and got him up to lvl63 but since then I have made about 15 new ones doing different play styles and backstories. Only a few have ever got over lvl 10 though because I get bored too quickly.

I tried to stick with my original Nord, though I knew that I'd be starting over eventually. In all, I think I've had around 5 characters, all Nord, and mostly the same blueprint: a mix of sword+shield and stealth archery with heavy armor, who will eventually level everything en route to lv 81. For all the racial options, creating anything other than a Nord has never crossed my mind; playing as a Nord in Skyrim just feels right.

I recommend researching a species you find awesome like say a wood elf, and figuring out what they're good at like archery, and light armor. Then make them into the best they can be at that. I've done Battlemage Breton, Wizard High Elf, and Viking Nord. I logged over 470 hours on the first and third but i svck at magic so i used the Oghma glitch for the middle one just to have fun with the role playing. Do whatever is the most fun because that is exactly what this game is about being fun.

Bwahaha. No way could I play just one character. I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing at my inability to stick with one character for more than 50 hours at a time :D

What happened to your starting character?

The game stopped loading cells. I tried to fix it, but found the problem had existed so far back that I would have lost half my levels and saves with that character, so I just decided to remake her and get to play through the questlines I'd finished again.

You should make a sneaky Mage.

Muffle, invisibility

Fire/frost/shock rune's

Summon creatures

And hide in the shadows.

It's really entertaining.

EDIT: And the sneak skill of course (but you don't need to perk it, FYI!)

Yes I have played only one character since release, 380 hours and all questlines except Bards done, just sandboxing him now as I can't break anything that would mess something up questline wise.

I could never imagine playing only one character in an Elder Scrolls game. I usually play one main character from each of the warrior/mage/thief archetypes. This gets me used to the mechanics of the basic playstyles and the guilds that suit them. After that I start making hybrid builds and trying new roleplay ideas. I end up with loads of characters.

My real problem is I just can't bring myself to delete them, even if I no longer use them.

Sorry to hear that! I'm always worried something like that would happen, and wouldn't have the strength to restart... Skyrim would be over for me... any idea why they stopped loading? Did you have a lot of mods installed?

Yes, since the release date I've made & played only one character, shes a level 55 (290 hours) imperial sword & bow, sided with the imperials. I kind of fail at role playing, no matter how many characters I create, I always end up playing them all the same, making the same decisions etc. - I always play myself.

I have 600 hours of game play across 3 character builds. One character, isn't going to cut it.

I've played as every race now, but stuck with my Dunmer Spellsword/Vampire, I like to play that style Because with him I can do every storyline and faction with ease. I plan to start an Orc Juggernaut Character so I can have fun with heavy armor and bashing people to death!

I have 5 characters, 3 on pc and 2 on the 360. I still have the female Nord 2H warrior/archer I made midnight 11.11.11 on Steam. On the 360, I have 308 hours with my wood elf thief/assassin. I didn't make second characters unti many hours in. Usually I like to make a build to role play so I have a character for each archetype.

I did until last week where I cured myself of Lycanthropy but still had the ring of Hircine ability so I became a vampire and tf'ed into werewolf but it didn't cure my 'condition' it did the complete opposite: glitching the game and not giving me the ability to cure myself with that guy in Morthal so everyone hates me now. Started new save several days ago... :(

Sorry to hear that! I'm always worried something like that would happen, and wouldn't have the strength to restart... Skyrim would be over for me... any idea why they stopped loading? Did you have a lot of mods installed?

I got too frustrated with the extent of the problem to unemotionally investigate it properly. I never use downloaded mods, and hadn't gotten to the point where I mess with the game myself, so it wasn't that.
My investigation led to having gone to Dead Men's Respite early in the game and picking up the Verse and meeting the ghost. Because I explore a lot I also had all of the found Bard's College items long before I joined. When I joined, The Blue Palace cell would not load, then Dead Men's Respite would not load, then the other cells in the game associated with quest items I had picked up.

The game has been patched in regard to these items since then, and the issue is probably fixed.

My second play through I just avoided all of those cells until I had joined the Bard's College, and everything was fine. I do not know for sure what caused the problem, which made me superstitious, but my game works fine now. :P One other problem I have had in both games is after completing the Companions questline Farkas wants to go kill his first dragon, and in both games he takes us to Autumnwatch where there is no dragon. In my second game when this happened I just reverted to an older save and have avoided speaking to Farkas. :P

Starting again turned out to be a lot of fun, since I played the DB and TG questlines I hadn't yet done, then decided to become 'good' and re-played all the questlines I'd already done. Enough time has passed to make it interesting to play through again.
