I don't travel with followers. Soooo this hasn't happened to me.

man I don't know what it is but followers just svck all the fun out of skyrim (for me atleast) most of the time they can't keep up with me even if I don't sprint or ride a horse they get in my way when im fighting they make stealth damn near impossible and they don't have the common sense to run away from a battle they have no chance at wining so that's why I travel alone.

I quickly gave up on followers after being forced to bring them along on the Companions quests. I tend to hit them too much with my sword, and they like to run into me while sneaking. Also, as mentioned, I can't just run to my next destination, taking the most convenient path, as they will get stuck or lost, and I have to keep making sure that they're still following me. I'm an adventurer, not a babysitter.
