Does anyone know if the playstation and xbox version will support mods? Will we be able to upload them using usb or download them to our game consoles?

Or not... The tools used to create games at that point will be much more advanced and PCs will still be far superior to consoles. This being said, if consoles maintain their current glass-half-full approach, they will never be able to support modding, though perhaps the ability to download and use user made content.

It's not the hardware that's the real problem. It's the policies of MS and Sony; they simply won't allow it. Unless those policies change, there won't be any mods for any generation of console.

Though someone from Beth mentioned in an interview (I think it was Todd) that they would love for consoles to have access to mods, I don't see it happening for reasons stated above: they have to be approved by the console makers.

That being said, you would only really have to get one on board. You wouldn't want to be the only platform that DOESN'T support mods.

I fear it has as much to do with controlling the content that gets put onto the consoles as much as greed on Sony/MSs part. If suddenly EVERYONE who owns the game can turn it into a pormo, that doesn't look good for any party involved, and I doubt they'd want to spend the manpower going through each mod and hand selecting ones that they approve of (kind of like Apple does with their apps). And then you would have people [censored]ing about which mods didn't make the cut.

And replace them with console sales, so...

Remember that the console online features are bastards; Valve gave up on adding new content & patches to TF2 on the Xbox, because Microsoft bill you for every additional patch you release.

Nope it won't. You still need a PC to make mods.

If the bethesda developers are smart they will add a submission for consolle , wich means that they could pick up some mods that do not "breack" too much the game , that add some neat stuff and are finely done to not overload the consolle system ... those mods should ofc be downloaded free but mostly they shoudl be sort of like the DLCs like horse armours and stuff like that ... may be some quests , or a new companion ... simple stuff ...

I think you can forget mod overhauls , supertextures , overdetailed models and so on ... this stuff woudl or could breack the consolle fluidity of the gameplay ...

TalkieToaster brings up a good point.

If we were to see mods on consoles, MS and Sony would likely require that the mods be submitted through some sort of supported platform so they can regulate downloads -- and in the process, they'll charge you, the modder, for the privilege of being hosted. Not only that, but they'd also have to provide some sort of support -- if they downloaded a mod off their online market and it messed up your game and corrupted all your save files, or worse, did something to the console itself, then they're the ones in trouble, not the modder. Allowing consumers to just slap a USB into their machine and upload mods from their PC would pop open a whole can of worms as far as liability and their ability to control their software goes, too. It just won't happen.

Consoles are things of convenience, and they're that way because everything on them is perfectly uniform and controlled.

You need a PC to make mods, but there are ways of getting mods for Fallout 3/New Vegas that don't add new meshes/textures on the PS3 (requires jailbreak).

Console sales have for the past two games (Morrowind and Oblivion) been far more numerous than the PC sales have been.

Morrowind in particular was "by a wide margin" if I remember Todd stating. So the PC sales haven't ever been better than the Console ones despite the major benefits.

You get perma-banned from XBOX LIVE for modding the color on your avatar. They are really strict about any modding. Although if you do not play live or connect to the internet, I'm sure there will be some people modding the game for it. You just have to do some research. I found some mods for a hockey game I was playing. Can not tell you to what extent mods will be for TES but some will exist. Just do not expect to mod the XBOX or the game and keep your subscription to live. They may catch you, may not.

Todd Howard mentioned that as a possibility, Bethie would like to port mods but that would depend on MS/Sony approval, which seems unlikely, on the other hand the "scary success" of Skyrim on PC (sales record) could be shifting the will to let the modding scene flourish on the PC version, if kiddos start buying the PC version for mod sake, then a lot of people will lose a lot of money, console makers and Bethesda included.

The PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 supports mods, so there's no reason in principle that other games couldn't do it. At least on the PS3, Microsoft is apparently less accommodating.
