Merchants have little gold

As a member of the thieves guild you get fences with 4000 gold at a time. Makes it much easier to shift a lot of gear quickly.

Join the Thieves Guild, you'll never have to fast travel the whole map again.

Join the thieve's guild, rise in rank and repair their station in Skyrim. The Fences then start have 4,000 Gold or so. No perks wasted, and you also get to experience the best guild in the game.

I have to agree this is really annoying. I have quite a few gem stones to sell and cannot just simply hock them all at one time for the money. I have to be traveling around or waiting and such...annoying...

Yeah, it's almost as "how to annoy the player and get away with it" is in the game designing for dummies manual. Oh wait, it is  Let's face it, it's pretty well balanced, especially if you choose to pay for your training. You either pick the perks or get penalized by annoyance. Game design 101.

At level 56, I have 140,000 gold. That's too much, but I was relatively penniless until about level 30. To put 'too much' in perspective, though, at level 28 in Oblivion I would expect to have 1.4 million.
One thing I don't quite get, how is it alright for merchants to have limited funds in Fallout, but expected to have huge cash supplies in Skyrim? I appreciate Fallout is set in a wasteland, but Skyrim trade isn't exactly safe, what with all the burned out wagons, and bandits on every road.

I don't want to waste speech perks.

Yep,
People talk about having more freedom in Skyrim, when it is really a joke. If you want to pick locks you have to have lockpicking, no more lockpick spells or scrolls. If you get sick of running from town to town selling, you are made to have speech perks and so on. I wasn't fond of Oblivion, but atleast it had more freedom then this game. You are completely forced to specialize now, instead of mixing and matching skills to make unique characters. Seems to me you really only have 3 choices anymore, Mage, Warrior, or Thief....and nothing else.

If you get the perk that makes everybody a fence will that make everybody have at least four thousand, I have not gotten the fence perk yet, or does that only apply to members of the Theives Guild?
I'm pretty sure it's just the quest-specific fences.
