3ds max and blender exporters? Developing or not?

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 12:38 am

After going through the nifskope forums the latest comment is that there is no max exporter for Skyrim being developed and I cant find any comments relating to blender. I was hoping someone in the know might be able to say "yes the exporters and nifskope are being developer" or "no they arent".

Also, does anyone else think we should have a ck tools sticky for the latest links to the latest tools and development threads? There are good CK tutorials but others are scattered around threads. Having a one stop shop for the latest tools and the tutorials provided for them would be useful. I would gladly do a few tutorials once I get used to some of the tools, but its a bit pointless as they get lost too quickly.

I support this, I'm still unsure about Blender ones, I'm used with Max but it seems they are not in development, and I really need the ability to export a proper collision.

Its odd that Oblivion had such efforts thrown at getting nifs etc to work and exporters/importers whereas Skyrim seems to have stagnated. I think this is one major consquence of a delayed released of the CK, quite some interest dried up and people have drifted elsewhere. Collision is a massive issue, without it models are pointless. I would love to start prepping my Mesogea stuff for Skyrim, and a lot of that I am happy for people to use as resources anyway, but at present I am stuck and the workaround needed for both a simple static and collision makes a minor task in Oblivion a chore for Skyrim that I havent the time to do with the current state of the tools.

I sincerely hope that the export/import max and blender tools and nifskope are being worked on. I am clueless at these so wouldnt know where to start, but I would certainly be willing to donate to those who can and are willing and I think its something the community could actually get involved in. The donation of £1 or a dollar for a good third party tool is paltry but would be welcomed by those investing their time and effort to making the tools.

Plus at this stage we can't keep using Convex shape hacks collision, for the purpose of performance, to make a convex to a simple wall would require too much effort for a not so decent result. The Collision part is what is bothering me the most, I'm actually developing a quest that require a lot of new custom assets including new interiors, and I would hate to end up using stuff from Skyrim that doesn't really fit of what I've in mind.

But I guess we can't do much about it.

I think the plugin for 3DS Max is being developed, but the author isn't on the Niftools forums very often. There seems to be a recent update on http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=5622.
