Why Can't You Kiss Your Wife?

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:17 pm

It is just that we can not get into details or provide links to the community made content.

Err... Excuse me, but after reading the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1275960-advltmature-content/ on the mods forum, I was under the impression that we CAN link to advlt content, as long as it's done through the Bethesda-provided disclaimer page. Has the policy changed? Would be nice to know, just in case.

I'm all for hugging, and kissing animations because it makes the world of The Elder Scrolls look more like a living, breathing world with A.I. that show emotion and affection. Of course though, I'd want Bethesda to focus on more important things like fixing bugs and glitches.

Yep, it'd be rather neat if the NPCs showed emotion towards eachother. Couples kissing, advlts patting children's heads, people slapping eachother's backs, that sort of thing. Still, it's a massive amount of extra animation.

Imagine Skyrim with DA:O six scenes. Farkas and your OC getting at it in slow motion while exceptionally gay music plays in the background. Oh and fire. There must be fire somewhere near for dramatic light and shadow effects.

You clearly didn't download the spectacular http://social.bioware.com/project/1230/ for the DA:O six scenes. It was...amazing.

Bottom line: too low of a work/benefit ratio. Animations involving two skeletons interacting with each other are hard work, and they don't tend to look very good. The faces would pass through each other if they tried to kiss, their arms would clip and not synch well if they tried to hug. The biggest problem is that these sort of animations would have to be applicable to characters with different height, and with different "weight" settings, which means they wouldn't look good for any of them.

I am sure there might be one magic combo that might work, but the interaction between the NPCs would not be that pretty. You can see this in some of the large scale brawls the game has, some NPCs move through each other during the fights.

Of course a lean in animation with a fade to black or something with a sigh or something could work. I mean people close their eyes most of the time when kissing and usually with hugging.

Of course it will take effort, but there are already the "kill-cam" finishing moves in the game, so they do already have the ability to sync two animations.

I'd rather kill dragons and troll the guards by shouting next to them.

Also pay my 40 gold assault fine when punching people in the face.
