ForceGreet Buggy In Scenes?

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 12:13 am

I've been banging my head agains the wall trying to get ForceGreet to work in a scene. What I want to do is:
  • Intercept PC death (done)
  • Stop combat (done)
  • Have the assailant give the PC a choice to "Yield Or Die!"
  • PC gets to choose from "Death, then", or "I throw myself upon your mercy"
The trouble is, no matter what I do, the choice never comes up. The bad guy uses the line as a hello, but the conversation ends there.

Investigating further, I set up a test cell, and created a button to start a quest, with the quest dropping an identical package on the head of a quest alias. That works fine - when the button is pushed a kajiit runs up to me and offers me a choice, with my PC then getting the choices displayed as expected.

The other thing that might be messing things up is combat, of course. I'm inclined to discount that, however since I've stopped both the combat and the combat alarm at that point, and added the PC temporarily into a friendly faction so it doesn't restart. Even so, I made sure the "ignore combat" flags were checked on the package.

Anyway, I'm probably going to restructure the whole thing to use the story manager rather than scenes, so it's not immediately important, but it did leave me wondering if there might be a bug at work here.

So: Purely out of curiosity. has anyone got ForceGreet to work in scenes?

I've use ForceGreet in a scene successfully. The last action in my scene has a guy approach the player and a couple of dialogue options beyond the greeting, where he then turns hostile on the player. ForceGreet other than in a scene doesn't work for me. I've tried getting ForceGreet command in a trigger but the actor only says the line as conversation - he doesn't open up dialogue. This isn't a package though as it should be I guess. (I use a ForceGreet package in the scene).

Odd. It works for me in precisely the circumstances in which it doesn't work for you, and vice versa.

There are worrying subtelties at work here.

I've been worrying about being able to do this kind of thing...can you open up a specific DialogView with Forcegreet, or does it just grab whatever dialogview that particular NPC is flagged as being able to use in the quest?

You pass it a topic from the player dialogue/dialogue view. The NPC uses the topic's info as the greeting, and any linked topics are then presented as choices in the usual way.

Or that's how it's supposed to work, anyway. The various locations are a bit fiddly to get right.
