NifSkope question; added piece of armor, want to texture it

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 6:14 am

So yeah, I used 3DS Max to succesfully add a single piece of armor to an existing set, but since it's not part of the existing .DDS texture file for the whole armor, it doesn't have any texture. I think I created a new texture file for the piece I added, it's a .TGA and not a .DDS, but even then I can use gimp to modify it.

Now, my problem is, I don't have the usual path of file to open and choose the texture in NifSkope, so I'm a bit lost on the matter of actually applying any texture at all on my addition to the armor.

Help?

Texture is applied just as any other mesh via nifskope. Trhough the BSShaderTextureSet block associated with the mesh part.

That's the problem, I can't find the BSShaderTextureSet, or the BSlighting block before. Here's what I see in NifSkope, maybe that'll help understand the matter:

I for one don't see any obvious options to change the texture.

You need to replace NiMaterialProperty with BSLightingShaderProperty branch, best way is to do that copy branch and paste on your new mesh then hookup with NiTriShape, then assign your textures in BSShaderTextureSet by clicking on the violet flowers..

If you do things in MAX then easy way is to use Material Editor and simply copy material from original model to yours. Then it will have proper branches on export (though still some corrections in NifSkope will be required).

Can you elaborate holugar? I tried copy-pasting but to no avail, the branch or block I copy always end up at the end of my list of branches/blocks, as if to create a new branch. Now, I clearly don't want that, but I can't seem to paste it accurately anywhere.

Also I'll check out these videos when I can, but I really gotta watch the tutos of 3DS max, cause as it's stand, I'm very not familiar with it.

There's an extra step after you do that which is easier to show visually - hence the videos I linked to. ;)

Ah, I see. I should seriously watch videos more.

Another question: my new mesh won't take any "complex" textures, it will always show an uniform coloring regardless of what is on the file I use for texturing, is it because of faulty modeling? Cause I just made a shape with 2D lines, not much work has been done on it. May it be related or it's another problem? EDIT: I think I got it, nvm
