New playable races: Good or bad idea?

..But goblins exist. Oblivion? They flooded like every mine? Though they are..stupid.

Exactly. They're not very sentient. Which is what I meant. I'll edit the above to clear that out.

Uh what? Yes, yes they are like Dwarves. Even books in Skyrim often refer to them as dwarves.

Read again. ;)

The Dwemer were named Dwarves by giants. TES Dwarves/Dwemer are Mer. Mer are elves.

Not really, it's literally stated in game like half a dozen times. We're just trying to avoid somebody getting disapointed thinking that there will be dwarves when their won't be.

^This^

Plus there's the being annoyed by the next person who lacks the ability to look further than his/her nose is long.
And the notion that some people would turn TES into TES:Tolkien if it'd be up to them.

TES:Tolkien?

You do realize that TES is basically a DnD ripoff?

That's what cracks me up the most, all you people who think that TES has unique bestiary because the races are named different.

Aldmeri are still High Elves, Bosmeri are still Wood Elves, Dunmer are still Dark Elves, Dwemer are still Dwarves, Orsimer are still Orcs, and so on. It's still the usual fantasy race parade.

So when you say that "Dwemer are nothing like Dwarves" it just shows your fanboyism. Yes, they ARE like Dwarves, they're non-humans living in underground cities in mountain ranges with a clear focus on stone/metal technology, architecture and craftsmanship. They even most likely have beards.

It doesn't matter if they're called Dwemer or Fnurglewitz. They're still Dwarves.

There are huge differences between the races though. Dwemer were all about technology, they had cities above ground as well (but you know time, earthquakes and what not can seriously hurt that). They weren't small creatures.

The similarities between them and D&D creatures or Tolkien creatures are mostly supersticial and they dissapear when you look deeper into the races. That you don't isn't our fault.

oblins
Oh yes. Let's ignore eons of Elder Scrolls lore and *poof* some sentient Goblins onto existence..

There's enough to add as it is. Akaviri races, Sloads, etc. And then imho only if it fits the lore. Like a renewed Akaviri invasion.
 you make a good an honest point there friend, I wouldn`t seriously expect Bethesda to include Goblins that way, not when there are other superior choices, it was just a fun an passing thought. But then I would say that Orcs were equally as hostile themselves at one point surely before they became more civilised.
