Name My Mod - NPCs Have Perks

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:49 pm

I'm currently in development (about halfway through!) making a mod that will give every NPC in the game (including ones from other mods) all the Perks they are eligible for (by which I mean they have the skill ranks for).

I think this mod is going to add something that has never been done before (as adding perks in the CK is impossible to do efficiently, and perks cannot be granted dynamically in-game), and will drastically alter/make more tactical and challenging all combat in the game.

But I can't think of a freaking name. Equalizer? Lacks something. Perky's Perked NPC's? Too cutesy. Inferno Mode (I anticipate my players will be dying quite a lot. Hehe.) Uncreative, Undescriptive, Awful. NPC Perk Overhaul? Unexciting. I dunno, I'm stumped. Hoping ya'll had something for me.

{For those skeptical, I have already made a test run that adds a perk causing everyone to do 100x damage with one handed and added it to every NPC. Worked like a charm.}

P.S
(TL;DR - I'm gonna make Squad-based Skyrim)
Eventually I will make it such that the player has 5 non-companion "minion slots" which can be filled with anyone who isn't your enemy, isn't cowardly, is not unaggressive, isn't already a potential follower, isn't an animal (on second thought, isn't a dragon, which goes away if you leave Paarthunax alive and finish the Main Quest. Animals would be cool companions) etc. that you get through a Dialogue Option. They follow you around and fight for you like normal companions, and when you level up they do too (using that SetRace trick methinks) and of course they get perks too. At the beginning of the game you get a squad of Stormcloaks/Imperials and you basically play a squad-based tactical skyrim. At that point I will rename it and re-release as a separate mod, but that's the plan. This makes for an RP experience where the player isn't some potion guzzling demigod who can topple nations with his fists, but rather a man with a great destiny.

"Perky NPCs" perhaps, but that might read like it's one of ...those mods.

I'm glad people here share my disdain for 'those mods'.

As someone who occasionally indulges in the lighter edge of 'those mods' (the horror!) no, it doesn't ring that way for me.

"A Level in Badass" is a possible suggestion from me.

While I don't really have a name for your mod, I have a small suggestion. I think your mod's name should be descriptive of what it offers. While having it named "Super Mega Awesome Mod of Awesomeness" might be cool, it's not quite practical.
Why? Simple, search engine. A person looking for NPC's with perks might search just that "NPC, perk, add" and your mod might not turn up. Unless tags function properly, and your mod would not be last just because it doesn't have those in its name.

So, I would suggest you would go for something like ["Insert cool name here" - NPC's have Perks ]. That way you can be sure that someone that uses the standard search engine (and not the tag search) will have your mod show up as well.

I was planning on it, because you're absolutely right. If you want a lot of downloads its best to be descriptive.
I'm hoping I make it to the Top 100 with this one, wish me luck!
