After I read this thread one thing hit me.... If these are things to do besides quests I must be special as I do these things as my primary way of playing and quests is more of a secondary thing.
This - although it's more intertwined than that but playing for me isn't quest-based.

I like to take the custom marker and stick it in the map somewhere and simply head roughly towards it and see what happens.

1. Read books

2. Stalk rich looking people and pickpocket them in dark alleys

3. Protect the smaller towns from bears and sabrecats at night by patrolling the wilds nearby

4. Find the wilderness shrines and make offerings to them

Protecting bunnies and foxes should be an actual quest.

the reward could be a battle bunny or fox!! i could imagine it now, the bandits would run for their lives, the hedge mages would laugh at the fact that they were right about my killer bunny and we would never have to worry about tolls again

1. Travel on horseback everywhere
2. If you're near a location, travel to it and unlock it on the map
3. Travel from one side of the map to another
4. Enchant weapons so that they are identical to unique weapons

That would be the nuts.
I may even take up modding just to do this!

I'm tempted to buy the PC version of Skyrim just so I can get KC and make a pet-friendly house. Maybe like a cylindrical forest area in the middle of the house with a deer, 2 rabbits, a fox, and other funny critters enclosed in a glass cylinder.

and a dungeon for the nasties.

Search for food, refill my bottle of water, sell my loot and buy equipment needed, sleep in an inn if it's getting late.

Thanks to PC mods, all of this is much more rewarding. My character actually has to eat, sleep and drink, I can carry less than normal, etc.

the quest could come from sheogorath! he seems the type to give out battle bunnies as rewards for a job well done

I look for ways to annoy people who have annoyed me. And they are legion. Sometimes you have to use the console commands (on a PC) to do things like remove all of Nazeem's clothing so that he's wandering around Whiterun naked. I guess I'm a child at heart, but I do try to amuse myself.

"Do you get to the Cloud District often? Oh, what am I saying? Of course you don't!"
Ah, shaddup, ya naked bozo.

I only have a beer in real life, when I have an Ale in the game. Every evening I trawl the pubs in a desperate attempt to acquire more ale.

And in the game...
