DLC about Pirates

Maybe I missed it because play on a PS3 but what Pirate DLC was released for Oblivion?

Not something to be too excited about, you don't have actual pirate gameplay but you hire a crew that will bring some weekly plunder.

Yes I'd totally love a pirate dlc with pirate questline, hire and command a crew, cartographer skill, treasure islands, real time sailing and boarding other ships. Like others said, sounds more like a wish for next TES, Skyrim's waters are a wasted opportunity in my opinion.

Bethesda didn't make the game, they merely published it.

I don't think ship battles would work even remotely well in Skyrim's engine, so I'd advocate against anything that were to include it rather strongly.

I'd welcome more use out of the Sea of Ghosts though.

Yeah, I like the idea of a pirate DLC, but there's not much in Skyrim to raid...
...we'll have to go to Solsthiem.

I would love to see a Pirate themed DLC next!!! We could see sea travel, new clothes like boots, shirts and headgear. Plus some new weapons like cutlesses like oblivion. Plus new island locations and quests!!! I highly endourse a Pirate themed DLC!

Am I REALLY the only one here doesn't see that vikings are the stupidly obvious choice? Nord even SOUNDS like Norse! Longhouses, Jarls, housecarls, axes and horned helmets! It's all built around Norse culture! So, why wouldn't we have vikings?

I don't think ship combat is feasible at least not in the way it would be with AC3 where they have a full fledged ship combat system as part of the game engine, but having a few pirate based missions and setting up new factions and getting on a boat and being in the "open sea" and either being in a boarding party as a pirate or fending off one has some potential as a Skyrim DLC.

Pirates of the Caribbean (aka Sea Dogs 2), it was made by Akella and published by Bethesda. I wish Bethesda Game Studios made a remake of that jewel some day, a huge open world of pirates, sailing simulation, ship and crew management and upgrades, land and sea combat skills, trade routes...

Two Worlds II had a pirate expansion, Risen 2 has a pirate theme, KoA had a pirate expansion...

I don't think Skyrim and it's Nord culture would fit a pirate expansion. Maybe on TES VI which i guess will be warmer but not Skyrim.

I think Orsinium featuring in an expansion is a sensible choice considering it's new location and the years of Orcs living in Skyrim.

Maybe an expansion into the sea north of Skyrim and maybe touching on a bit of Atmora would be good.

An expansion set on the Abecean Isles could work. You know, you join a crew of "vikings" in Solitude and start pirating the Abecean Isles and fighting the Thalmor fleet. The lore around Velekh Sain could also be expanded. And some Cyrus stuff too.

Nooooo... Go away! :meh:

Just kidding... But seriously though, I don't see anything interesting about Orsinium, especially to new players. Lore that deep isn't exactly in their faces, it would be just another bunch of dumb kill-em-all quests and/or maybe a new realm or two; which will certainly ended in a cliffhanger. Orsinium isn't exactly fun to play with; and I really don't care about Orsinium at all.

If there would be a DLC, there should be something that all players, new and veteran, would be able to connect to... What's better than a couple of giant sea monsters, bracing the Sea of Ghosts, viking raids and fat pirate booties?... Rather than boring orcs and a middle-of-the-woods Daedric Prince that nobody would give a damn about.

Haven't played in KOA, but I played TW2 and Risen 2 and I can say I love the pirate setting for a big rpg. I hope Bethesda will focus on this on a futuer game to give us a real water and underwater gameplay. The water is so... I dunno, sad and empty in Oblivion and Skyrim.

The fact it is another city to trade and meet new npc at. It also has the potential to open up a Daedric quest where as well as the city of Orsinium we could enter into a Daedric realm which again could have villages / towns and new npc.
Additionally Orsinium could have an arena to compete in.
Additionally Orsinium could also involve Thalmor as Orsimer were once the people of the Aldmeri's mightiest warrior before they were changed from Aldmer into Orsimer.

I fail to see how this can close to boring.

It doesn't have to be. Rivers and waterfalls in Skyrim have a decent current system, I could think of ways to incorporate that into making more realistic seawater. Now we even have dragons that fly out of water and break the ice and dive back in!

I think the main reason they didn't do it is because the sea didn't play anything major in Skyrim; and because it is way to large and too much hassle to code it.

Fable has the best pirates

If our beloved Bethesda team ever make a Fallout game that is set in Miami and the Everglades then I'd like to see post-nuclear pirate expansion for that. That'll be interesting. Pirates on modern boats.

Yeah... but... I don't see anything interesting in that part of the lore. At least Dawnguard give us the ability to turn into a Vampire Lord and block the Sun; Orsinium would just simply be another area with a bunch of fools to crush then go back to Skyrim with really nothing in hands.

It's probably just me, but I would like something substantial with the next DLC. If pirates/bandits suddenly play a large part in the story, maybe they could plunge the entire land into anarchy and kick out the thalmors, imperials AND stormcloaks. They could extend the Sea of Ghosts, Winterhold arc, Thieves Guild arc, and even Companion arcs with the pirate backdrop.

Have you seenhttp://www.luftahraan.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=234? It's a city mod project that has a Pirates Guild. It sounds pretty sweet so far, maybe Pirates could well be a viable option.

Not if it opened up a portal to a Daedric realm steering towards something like Shivering Isles.

Orsimer lore is all revolved around a Daedric prince verses the Admeri's greatest ever champion warrior (hence the Thalmor connection).
The prospect of an amazing (& large) expansion is there with Orsinium and the Orcs.
