Why not make it so Fast travel has a cost/risk so one cant just fast travel all willy nilly without a care in the world?
I propose that fast traveling costs health to reach a location and the reason : you are traveling through dangerous areas! You are being slashed/shot/bitten/punched as you go to where you want to go! The further away the location you are fast traveling to the more health you lose so if you go too far you obviously die so the smaller the distance the less damage you take or if its short enough no damage.
At least this is my idea anyway, I think it would help encourage people to actually walk a little bit.
Or have something like make fast travel have the waiting timer and when the timer reaches the end you get to the destination and while the timer is moving you have a chance of being dragged out of fast travel in an area thats on route to your destination due to being attacked (think random battles from classic RPGs) and once the enemy is dealt with you get a pop up to continue fast travel or cancel it to walk.
I just dont buy it that my character can just stroll through the map derp eyed as he fast travels perfectly safe while taking the long way is dangerous.
