Several Disappointments with Brink for PC

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:55 am

I find I am truly disappointed with Brink for PC and I suspect the same problems occur on the consoles. Gameplay is the frenetic run and shoot of the Unreal Tournament/Quake 3 style. This type of play makes no sense in real life. If one were to run around like that in combat they would be dead in an instant. I was hoping for a more "modern" if you will single player game like Bad Company2, Wolfenstein, Call of Duty, or Red Faction: Guerrilla. In addition some of the challenges are screwy. When trying to complete the 3 Star Parkour I find myself missing jumps all the time. Since the game movement is supposed to be smart this strikes me as pretty dumb. In addition there are no challenges for soldier - strange? Most of these faults can be corrected in a patch or maybe a DLC (which should be free). If I had known it was going to be a glorified Team Fortress I would not have purchased the game. I hope Demon Forge will not be a fantasy version of the same game.

Bad Company2, Wolfenstein, Call of Duty, or Red Faction: Guerrilla.

Hey I bought a game I did not know anything about and now I blame the developers for not making it the way I wanted it.

I'm sorry dude, but it seems like you just bought a game and now you're disappointed that it is not like said games. Honestly, if you just read anything about Brink, you would have known that it's all about "the frenetic run and shoot".
Oh, I said that I'm sorry for you. I am not. That was a lie.

I came to brink to get away from games like that. This is a good game to add to mix, since it built to have skill to kill people and based around team play.

I did read about the game ahead of time and I did not hear about it being a team fortress clone. I have played all the games I listed several times; after one has played a game several times it gets a bit dull. I think the game as promise but it still needs work. I am not the only one that is disappointed with Brink; the reviews have not been particular kind with the critics mentioning many of the same issues. We will have to see if the sales reflect the same judgement.

I was hoping for ... Call of Duty

Get out.

No, seriously, BRINK isn't your damned Call of Duty, and everyone knows that every "modern" FPS copies Call of Duty. The whole damned point of BRINK was to break away from CoD's iron grip on the FPS, and if you can't acknowledge that and then criticize it, you aren't going to be welcomed.

Both the game's official website and the wiki talk about the class-based objective game-play. Along with most any video available anywhere on the Internet for the game. It's not a TF2 clone, though it shares some similarities. Also, the criticisms for the game have primarily been for the bugs. Mostly the Xbox 360's netcode and texture issues. The only universal complaint about the game across all platforms seems to be the friendly bot AI being unhelpful at best. The PC version has been getting rather good reviews unless the reviewer has an ATI card (issues which will hopefully be fixed soon). The people who have the game and aren't having problems generally love the game. Once some of these bugs are resolved, I'd wager a lot of reviews would be far more positive.

It's not real life. It's a game.

I did not say I was hoping for Call of Duty but it is apparent from the types of responses I have received that I am not welcome on this forum. It is interesting to note that this is the first time I have gotten that feeling on any forum especially a company sponsored one.
