Aint that a kick in the head

Sadly I only play 1 game on any console and I waited two years for the 1 game I play to come out! I have tried everything that anyone here has suggested and everyone has been really helpful in trying to solve the issues. Nothing works. I don't have any issues indoors which is O.K, but the wasteland has it's hiccups and the two to three times daily game crashes! I still attempt to play this and have started over three times and still haven't gotten to the dam. So for anyone who is attempting to play without auto-save, no music, and whatever else you can think of, it doesn't help one bit! Does anybody else hear a clicking noise coming from the HDD?? Oh and one other thing,
I noticed someone with a ps3 slim reportedly has had no issues, can we get someone to second that?

uhmm, if you did look at my post about freezing issues, it said they worked for me and other players. I said it's not a guaranteed fix, and it wont work for everyone. but it helped at least 3 other people, that I know of. if you need someone to "second" it, look through my thread.

I wouldn't have people thanking me if they didn't work. just because it didn't for you, doesn't mean it doesn't for EVERYONE, which is what you said.

and if your HDD is clicking, it needs to be repaired. I know this from experience. hope your warranty is still good.

Uhhhmmmm..... Thanks for the sarcasm but as you replied I read another kid with the slim who claims he played through with 300 plus crashes ... I may have to go back to the capital wasteland, this just svcks!!

and again, with the huge size of this game, everyone experiences different issues. if your going to compare someone else's experiences and decide that that is what is going to happen to you, sell or shelve the game. anyone on here will tell you that not everyone has issues with the game.

and where was I being sarcastic? grumpy, maybe but its getting tiring having to repeat myself...

Well we are all grumpy kid! The best thing we can do is help each other, what is good out there in comparison? I've heard of Oblivion, Borderlands, that DC online game, what did everyone else do? I need my FIX!!!

is the game absolutely not working for you? if you haven't tried restoring the file system, I'd give it a shot, there's nothing to lose, except a save file if it's corrupt.

if your sick of it, and you like the post-apocalypse type games, there's a battalion of post-apocalyptic games coming out this year, and none will include the old software that made this game unplayable. borderlands is very different from fallout, I would rent it first. it's more FPS then RPG. oblivion is also very different from FO. it depends what you like...

I sold my copy, and I preordered the collectors edition game and guide for 140 CND. I got less than half of that in cash back. if your fed up with it, sell it. they can never fix the freezing with a patch, it has to do with the core of the game.

Yea I've tried it all, everything from a BD lens cleaner to a can of air! File system restore to playing the game while ducked down to decrease my speed, Nothing!
It isn't so bad (3-5 crashes/day, and 2 dozen "hiccups") but I never had an issue in Capital Wasteland...

FO3 worked somewhat better, but for me once I got a big save around 9-10MB with the GOTY edition it wouldn't work at all. unfortunately, the only way to play this game and at the same time enjoy it is by getting the PC version, which is still somewhat buggy.

3-5 crashes a day is still something you shouldn't have to put up with, period. hiccups are expected in a game of this size, yes, but the freezes are absolutely inexcusable. also, you should really get your system checked out if it's making clicking noises. mine was too, because some futureshop employee dropped it on the ground while it was in the box. I didn't see this, but the corner of the box was crushed in. I had to send it in to Sony and they replaced the HDD and repaired the disc tray, w/e disc tray there is... not saying you dropped your system, but I had the same issues with my HDD, so just a suggestion. not that it's the cause for the NV freezing, it'd just be best to get it fixed before it gets worse and your HDD craps out on you.

Thanks for all the insight man. HDD has been clicking since NV crashes, what a bunch of crap!! I would like to think that this company made enough money to cut THEIR losses and redo my favorite game and I would happily re-purchase it! I would also like to think these forums are here for those guys to read our thoughts and meet consumer needs and if they are reading "I'm Going PC" and I will use my Sony products to build a gaming system!

no problem man, that's one of the reasons why these sub-forums are here. they won't be "re-doing" the game, unfortunately.and although they go through the forums, I doubt corporate, who are the ones that need to be seeing it, do.

after skyrim comes out, I imagine their next project will be fallout 4/5, which will use their new software, and not any of the old crap that ruined their series. hopefully it'll kick ass.

edit: the clicking started after playing NV? it doesn't happen when you turn the system on or off? or with any other games? I would definetly stop playing it if so. there may be a defect with the disc, it does happen sometimes. depending where you got it, you may be able to take it back. just be polite and what-not, and make sure to say that it was making your HDD click, if you just complain about the freezing they'll tell you that a patch is on the way or some other lie.

HDD only clicks for NV! I just played for two hours straight and no freezes, it hiccups a lot but no crash. I got to level 5 and loaded the DLC v.1.02 and don't have the canteen or the weathered pistol, maybe I don't have any of the v.1.02 cause I already started a game but if it doesn't crash I'll be happy with it. Sadly though I think the game is making me sick!

odd, I had the classic pack as well and downloaded it after starting a game, and it still worked fine. did a message come up saying "classic pack has been added" or something?

No nothing and under downloadable content on the main menu it doesn't say I have anything. When I first got the game it did though and crashing was happening regularly.
More field test required but why aren't WE getting paid for this???

lol, if were testing it, whens the final product coming out?

it's odd it doesn't come up, though. did you delete it by accident? check your game utility. depending on where you live, you might have two different versions, for ex. I live in Canada, so I had the CA and French versions, even though it had nothing to do with french. I'm not sure what would be there if you live in the states or anywhere else TBH.

I deleted it on purpose to try the game without DLC, along with all my saved games and started new without DLC. Freezing issues continued so I got the update U.S version in which it would normally tell me I have but doesn't now!?!?! It's no longer a game but a days worth of work to try to play, if I get one crash I will be sure to let everyone know that this method also doesn't work! Which I'm pretty sure I will happen!

Ok, so after 17.5 hrs of game play, level 15, avoiding most side missions with a game save data of 4600 or so I have experienced the norm for glitches but no crashes. I'm satisfied enough to the point where I'm back to that scavenger mentality without worry of a game freeze. Installing the DLC after having started a game seemed to help me after every other extra precautionary measure BUT, it may be to soon to tell AND I spend most of what would be gaming time HERE trying to figure out how to PLAY the game. I have put the plan into action to build a gaming PC and play video games again, opposed to rant about them! I will sell PS3 .. and lastly FU#K you guys for selling me junk!!!!!!!!!

I would like to add that I never exceeded 4 hours of game play at one time... so for those of those who still have faith in consoles, it maybe worth the effort, I'm a huge fan of this game and if the only way I can enjoy it is PC than that is where I'm going.... ps3 will help pay for the upgrades!
