Gamescom: Fallout: New Vegas – Heading South

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:43 am

I don't think I can wait much longer, I nearly got hit by a car today at work whilst daydreaming about new vegas. :bonk:

You should post that under the ways you know you're excited thread.

You won't get to enjoy New Vegas if you get hit by a vehicle.

Ah, but if I only break my leg I can have six months off sick, six months of pure FONV and microwave food :celebration:

Will do.

It was more of an "OBSIDIAN ACTUALLY MANAGED TO POLISH A GAME??? :ahhh: " post. Graphics aren't that big of a deal to me, but it's great news nonetheless.

yeah this really is awesome news. i think this the first game they've actually had full support from both the developer and publisher with, so it's nice to finally see them on top of their game.

that said you KNOW it'll be riddled with bugs. we're talking about both Bethesda and Obsidian here. i'm confident there won't be nearly as many as some of their earlier games, though.

I'm pretty sure the game is completed right now, and all they're doing is playing through looking for bugs. So 2 months worth of bugfixes :liplick:

There will still be plenty of bugs...

True, but I don't think we'll see many game breaking ones. I'll probably be wrong of course.

... if no one has mentioned, "the burned man walks" is probably a reference to the annual Burning Man Festival that takes place in Nevada.

If they do include that festival then I hope it's nothing too ridiculous.

True. Good idea. Though it does seem to reference The Hanged Man. Look it up on the Fallout wiki.

Yea I was surely surprised when I read that. I was not aware that obsidian made that significant a leap with the engine!

I'm guessing they're talking about 1.) Obsidian did a good job with textures, which isn't an engine enhancement so much as a good job by their artists and 2.) they sharpened up facial textures in some places by "folding" body textures and using the extra texture space to increase the fidelity of the faces.

If they do include that festival then I hope it's nothing too ridiculous.

Could be they're talking about Burning Man, but I really, really hope they're talking about http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Joshua_Graham from the Van Buren docs instead. According to the wiki (which I assume was taken from the Van Buren design docs) he was burned from head to toe. He just sounds like an immensely badazz NPC.

The first thing we noticed was simply the leap in graphical quality that Fallout: New Vegas has made over Fallout 3.

They must be playing the PC version then...

I read in an interview (and it was confirmed in this forum by Josh S., but I don't have time to find it right now) that they made extra room for facial textures on some characters (like some of the supermutants) by only loading half of the body texture and then mirroring it for the other side of the body. This is allowing them to use facial textures with more detail on some characters.

Ok thanks makes sense.

I'll give this interview a +1 for including the phrase "a fine red mist". Also, there was a slight bit of new info there.

Best companion that never was. "Burned Man" kind of reminds me of Ignus, though.

It's cool... If you read it says he was ceaser right hand man. After they failed at hoover dam he was burned by ceasar. This is not canon yet, but it could have occured shortly before we arrive.
