Need some clarification about Joshua Graham....

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 1:21 pm

I just made it to the fort and talked to Caesar as well as some other members of the Legion.

What I don't understand is this.

If Joshua Graham failed Caesar at Hoover Dam why was he allowed to leave the Dam, travel all the way back to the Grand Canyon with the Legion before he was burned and thrown in the canyon?

Did it truly take Caesar that long to decide his fate for the failure at the damn? Wouldn't it have been easier to just of set him on fire at the dam? Probably not since the NCR were breathing down Caesar's neck. Even so, there are other places to have set him on fire and thrown his remains.

On top of all this. Why did Joshua go back to Utah? I'm hoping that is explained in the DLC.

Cesar probably waited until the Legion weren't being attacked by the NCR before punishing Grahams failure I think Cesar would have wanted it to be a spectacle to send a message that this is what happens to those that fail me, As for going back to Utah maybe thats the only place he could think to go most of the region is legion territory so it wouldn't be a good idea to stick around and the NCR controlls most of the west so its not like he had a lot of places to go where he wouldn't be killed but an in dlc explanation would be nice.

See I was thinking that maybe he went back to Utah to restart his tribe.

That does make perfect sense about using him as an example too. I hadn't thought about that.

he was a Mormom so it would be logical for him to return to mormom territory

Yes, I had considered that. However, if I were shot, burned, thrown down a casm, drowned I wouldn't be looking to walk a few hundred miles back to my roots.

They didn't just go to the Dam, fail, and leave. They retreated to Boulder City, then few escaped.

But thats really the only place not controlled by people who want him dead and have several hundred soldiers who are more than willing to do the job, that assuming Graham was awake to do anything its just as likely he was incapacitated and found by someone who brought him a fair bit of that distance while he was out.

He could easily have decided what to do with Graham before they took him to the Canyon. I wonder why he didn't try and escape with his badassery. Also, the Grand Canyon is a source of amazement in this current society, such a massive landmark could be even more spectacular to wastelanders. It's probably the most impressive place in Caesar's empire, so it fits. Also, Grahams reasoning for traveling north will likely be revealed. I'm assuming he visited his home town in New Canaan and he is obviously up to something with those tribals.

You remember incorrectly, sorry to say. Not meaning to sound rude. They're in 2 different states and they are 2 different National Parks. The entirety of Zion is in Utah, and the entirety of the Grand Canyon is in Arizona. They aren't connected.

Wrong.

They taken Hoover Dam and then pursued NCR forces into Boulder City that was booby trapped and there is were they were defeated, when the NCR blown up the town and counter-attacked and routed them.
So yes, Graham had plenty of responsibility over the Legion loss at the First Battle of Hoover Dam as he pursued the retreating NCR instead of holding back and secured the Legion position in the Dam.

He was actually set on fire and thrown into Snake River Canyon in Idaho, but everyone has heard it told as "The Grand Canyon" and it sounds better, so eventually you just get tired of correcting people.

And I'm guessing Caesar was high-stepping it away from the NCR as fast as he could. He set the guy on fire as soon as he felt safe stopping and building a fire. He probably wanted to make sure everybody was paying attention when it happened. That's a tough thing to ensure when the army that just humiliated you is still hot on your tail. By existing roads it's ~250 miles (perhaps 600 miles to the real site in Idaho). On foot with an entourage of slaves and tired soldiers through a high desert, I'd guess that took a month or more. Enough time to come up with a truly epic punishment. Circuses were another specialty of the ancient Romans.

Actually Zion Canyon (National Park) is part of the North Rim territory of the Grand Canyon.

Bryce, Zion and Grand canyons are all part of the Grand Staircase of canyons and they are all connected.

The battle was near the dam and they lost, and Caesar likes to have his little ceremonies, he probrably made it a huge spectacle for some of the other commanders to watch. Which they couldn't do properly at the Dam with the fact they might be shot at.

Grahams tough but that seems to be defying logic, I would say a more possible reason would be that someone found him and maybe that person is the one who made him who is now?
