Four eyes: nice or svcky?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:25 am

Base = 5
With glasses = 6
Without glasses = 4

Two point spread between the extremes. No problems so far right?

When the game checks the if you qualify for a perk it removes the glasses and thus killing the bonus, but still applies the penalty. That's why it svcks and small frame is a better pick for the exact same effect (+1 perception, or freeing up a SPECIAL point to place elsewhere).

How hard are eyeglasses to come by early?
Will I need that spot for something elses WAY more vital?

As mentioned, there are a pair of glasses directly in front of you when you wake up. When you wake up, there's a wall to your left, follow the wall forward to the counter where you'll find a pair of glasses and a skill magazine.

Four Eyes is a required trait if you want to maximize your characters stats as much as possible. Start with 6 Perception, get the implant, and then wear a pair of glasses with the 1st Recon Beret. You'll end up with 10 Perception and +5 Critical chance.

The most DT you can get from a helmet is 8, and that comes with -1 Charisma and only +5 Rad Resistance. The best headgear, aside from the 1st Recon Beret, is the T-51b Power Helmet. It has 4 DT, +1 Charisma, and +8 Rad Resistance.

A little off topic. My build. (Once I get the game. Stupid not-having money!)

Special -
STR - 7
PER - 4
END - 4
CHA - 4
INT - 8
AGL - 6
LCK - 7

Traits -
Wild Wasteland
Four Eyes

Tag Skills -
Energy Weapons
Melee Weapons
Science

You have 3 guesses who it's based on. Here's a hint-

How is it required if it's broken?
Normal
Base 5
glasses +1 = 6

Four eyes
Base 5, but changes to 4 with taking the perk
glasses +2 = 6

Four eyes does absolutely nothing to help your perception, it is broken.

Aye it is broken, "-1 Perception without glasses +1 with" that's 5-1=4 and 5+1=6
As with four eyes you got 5-1 for 4 with-out glasses matches what expected. But with glasses its 5-1+1=5 The Trait broken as it removes from the base regardless of glasses or not.

It worse than bad in game as it's -1 base Perception and +1 from wearing glasses. For wait for it the same Perception as not taking four eyes. Either the skills broken or the trait description is wrong either way it bugged.

Wow! I wish I could say that I'm surprised at how many people in this topic clearly have no ****ing clue what they are talking about, but it seems to be the standard on this forum.

Allow me to explain Four Eyes as simply as possible, with pictures for you simpletons out there.

Here is a picture of Reading Glasses in the inventory of a character with the Four Eyes perk. Take note of the +2 PER bonus that they give.

http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/7385/withd.png

Now, here's a picture of those same Reading Glasses in the inventory of a character without the Four Eyes perk. Take note that they give NO bonus without the perk.

http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/1708/without.png

Now for some basic first grade math. A character starts with a base Perception of five points.

Character without the Four Eyes trait
Base 5
Reading Glasses +0 = 5

So, a character without the Four Eyes perk wearing a pair of Reading Glasses still has five Perception. The glasses do nothing without the Four Eyes perk.

Character with the Four Eyes trait
Base 5
Four Eyes perk -1 = 4
Reading Glasses +2 = 6

So, a character with the Four Eyes perk wearing a pair of Reading Glasses has six Perception. That is one more point than a character without the perk. ****ING MIRACLES!

So that is why Four Eyes is not only a great perk, but also a required perk if you want maximize your character's SPECIAL stats as much as possible.

If anybody wants to try and disagree with this post, you had better have some screenshots to support your idiocy.

Hehehe was wondering how many posts this thread would get up to before someone got annoyed enough to post how it actually works.

So far (my highest lvl char is 16) i've not seen a single pair of glasses with any stat bonus (without Four eyes), so i can't comment on whether or not the bonus would stack.
As to how the trait works, Pickle is absolutely correct. It seems that everyone who responded to this thread automatically assumed that a pair of glasses added 1 perception without any trait.

Now, the trait is great. Nomatter how you look at it you end up with a bonus aslong as you're using glasses.

Not to mention that the 1st Beret + shades = pure pwnage.
