Power Armour

Will power armour have different effects a la FWE or will it be the same? Has any change been mentioned?

I don't think anything's been said yet, but I do hope that it is MUCH stronger than before, as well as having some more drawbacks.

NB4 inevitable obnoxious debate

On topic: I don't know, people complained about the T-45d having a -1 agility, but it doesnt really damage anything IMO, but I hope the T-51b will have a strength boost to it, it always has, so I'm HOPING it will.

I hope it makes you run a bit slower, so you're more of just a dumb, heavy brute.

I hope it adds strength and decreases agility and endurance. That or it decreases perception.

Does anyone know if damage threshold is confirmed? I've heard some people mention it.

It is. I don't have a source right now, but me, and many others will confirm this.

Regarding PA: I hope it makes you more clunky, but a tank. I don't use it on my main character build, so I could care less. My main uses light armor, if any at all.

I'm gonna http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13361...

I just wish there was a game setting I could tweak to globally increase melee attack speeds.

Power armor shouldn't have any drawbacks at all other than a big loss of stealth capabilities. Lowering Sneak skill would be fine. If it lowered Agility it would also lower AP which is a big no-no.

I COULD be wrong, but DT and DR will both be in. Damage Res is for clothes and Damage Thresh is for Armors. My opinion comes from I think Ausir saying he say DT on his leather armor and DR on his Vault 21 jumpsuit in the demo at Gamecon.

Edit- Imp- Oh YOU'RE the one who made that Mod? There are very few mods I like, most are pretty dumb, but the Powered power armor Mod is one of the few that seems really cool (Im a console player :sadvaultboy: )

Why not? It's big clunky armor. You should be slower, and less accurate, in my opinion. One, you're coated in metal, and even with the assists, moving around shouldn't be perfect. Two, try putting on a suit of armor, knight style, and running a course and dropping several targets accurately along the way. Doesn't seem very possible.
To make it a trade off, and not just "god mode", you should have more than a sneak drawback.

On a battlefield, mobility is life. Any armor suit that significantly slows down its wearer is worthless. This is, incidentally, one of the reasons that Dragonskin body armor IRL is such utter crap.

It is actually very possible. Medieval plate mail was heavy, but it distributed the weight evenly over your body - it was possible to both mount a horse unaided and do cartwheels in plate mail armor. This is one of the things Hollywood got completely wrong - the only suits so heavy that they infringed mobility like that were jousting suits designed for show and certain ceremonial ones that would never actually be used in combat.

And plate mail doesn't even have a power assist to carry its own weight like Fallout PA does.

I see your points. Regardless, it's more weight, and the agility makes sense. By the way they make it sound, you can't even move in PA without the assist. So, I can imagine that you shouldn't be able to move as fast in it. The way I see it, is that it makes you a walking tank. So, you should be slow. And, in my opinion, from my shooting experience, the less mobility you have, the more time it takes you to hit target after target. A rifleman would usually want to be less armored than an assault troop. When you have to place shots that matter, you make sure you're less weighed down. So, PA should have less "agility" so to speak.

According to lore, the TX-28 MicroFusion Pack that powers T-51b power armor puts out 60,000 watts. That's 80 horsepower. You should be able to cover ground pretty quickly if you're strapped into what's basically a 45 lb., 80 hp single occupant vehicle. What's really lacking is that you're already so disconnected from the environment by having to control everything via a mouse and keyboard, or even worse a console controller, that the reduction in agility that power armor would impose just can't really be expressed, except as an abstract statistic that may or may not appropriately effect gameplay. They'd have to add in more sophisticated ways that you could interact with your environment, like climbing or molding yourself to cover, things that would help you in combat but would be impossible to do in a bulky (albeit powerful) motorized suit.

Alright. I'm bound to lose this arguement. I guess my last angle of attack is, from a gameplay perspective,it's way too powerful. Best armor rating and no drawbacks? Come on now.

If you were really stuck in a post apocalyptic wasteland, you would probably want to be wearing power armor, just like if you lived in a war zone, you would probably want to be driving a tank. That's sort of an insurmountable balance problem. What they did do though is make it a little tougher for you to use power armor - you need that perk, so you have to make it through some pretty tough fights before it becomes an option. Once it is an option though, yeah, its hard to justify wearing anything else.

Personally I'd like to see them put some imagination into making it a less attractive option. The noise would constantly draw attention to you.You might not be able to use cover as effectively, or operate some weapons or, if the engine supported them, vehicles. You couldn't fit through tight spaces or climb. For my powered power armor mod I've made it so that the microfusion pack explodes if you shoot it right (just NPCs at the moment, but in the next release the player will run a small risk of PA explosions.) I also added the need to keep it charged, which I think was part of the earlier Fallouts, at least with some of the armors. If power sources were scarce enough it might make you decide to save the PA for certain occasions, or not use it so you could save some caps.

Since it was because of big dumb slow brutes that America took back Anchorage and an entire faction of Tech Heads came to be.
