Hey guys, I keep getting a pop up reminder to take a drink from my lucky vault 13 canteen, however the canteen is in my Misc. Items and cannot be used like items in the Aid section... what gives? Seams rather odd that they would program in a reminder to drink from a canteen you can't even use...

I think you've read it wrong. When it pops up for me it says "you've taken a sip from your vault 13 canteen" or whatever. I THINK...

Its not a reminder to drink its a notification that you did.

Wait.. what? Why is happening? I'm not on hardcoe mode or anything, so thirst isn't a problem right? What if I didn't have a canteen, would I get messages that I was thirsty?

"Takes a sip from the canteen..." I had this too and I believe that it is a reference to Fallout 1 and I think that it's only use is for those messages and a quick cap. I personally am waiting until I can get an official house and will dump it in my "Cabinet of Rare Items". In my FO3 cabinet I have every single rare item except for rewards from quests with an item for each way of finishing (e.g. Oasis) and Wild Bill's Sidearm (Stupid Bill glitched through the ground).

I don't know if it's still the same.. I would think so.

And if not, i'm sure it's more for the RP'ing than anything.. :frog:

Whenever the message pops up, the canteen restores 25 dehydration and 15 health. It looks like food/water always heals health, even in hardcoe mode, too, which makes me sad (though that's going by effect descriptions, not actual tests).

And yeah, the canteen can't ever go empty.

I was wondering how many charges the thing would have. Guess i'll be making that canteen mod after all when i get the game. Unlimited water is too unbalanced.

Off topic sort of i know but can you actually bottle water in the game without a mod?

Had the same thing happen, found this video, followed its directions, got to Bill.

I actually did that on my second character but couldn't on my main rare item account because the PS3 version was ported badly. Because I had an 18 GB save file I could not get to the pier (my guy was in Point Lookout) without it crashing.
