Pre-Order Through JB-Hi Fi (Australia)

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:39 pm

Hey everyone, first post in the Forums. Been lurkin' for a while, might as well come out and say hello :laugh:

Now to my question:

I have pre-ordered Brink through JB Hi-Fi...and here come's the complication and where I require assistance:
I had no plan to actually pay money for the pre-order but, instead, use the 'three for one' deal they have going. However, this cannot be done on an actual pre-order. What my store clerk told me to do, however, is this: upon the release date (12th of May), I would ring JB Hi-Fi and cancel my pre-order, supposedly putting it back into default stock. I would then go down in the afternoon and see if they had any copies of Brink avaliable and, if so, if they have any Limited Edition copies (Psycho Pack) avaliable. Seeing as my order would have been cancelled the same morning, it would be sitting in Store Limbo, waiting to be sold as any new release title would. Now, I ask of this:

-Is this deal going to actually work?
-Will there be a possibility of my order being given to any old chap?
-Will I burn in Hellfire for all eternity?

I, myself, personally don't mind if I don't receive the Psycho Pack, just so long as I get the actual game. Of course, a burlap sack over my in-game avatar would be all kinds of lul-bait
:woot: so, please answer with all the profound knowledge I have so far observed from all who post here. And to the winner AKA the one with the correct/most reassuring answer, I offer...this rare :turtle:

So, answer away :D

Good to hear from another Aussie =D

To be honest, you do run the risk of loosing your pre-order. There is always a chance they will run out on the day.
The part that gets me is that i dont understand why they didnt let you use your games.. I did it with my pre order?

The deal may not work because of a few reasons:

a) JB may not add Brink to the 3-for-1 offer straight away as the current 3-for-1 offers run until May 17th;
b ) I highly doubt they would offer you a pre-order bonus copy as part of a deal;
c) If you leave it to the afternoon chances are that bonus edition will be gone.

I don't like your chances of getting the bonuses if you cancel your pre-order but you can only try if you really want to use the trade-ins :)

EDIT: As Dark mentioned above though, I also have been able to use trade-ins towards pre-orders at JB.

Really? That's pretty weird, my shop was real taboo about it. Thing is, in my dealer, they have the release date on the pre-order docket for the 12th. Yet in-store, they have it advertised for the 19th. Also, they were having technical difficulties with their systems, so that was a ton of fun to deal with.

Indeed. I'll run that risk though, just in case. It's not necessarily an AAA release like L.A Noire, or Skyrim, but it'll still be in high demand. Just hopefully not the kind of demand that has them drained on the first release date.

Release date was brought forward a week and they may not have the new signage as I know GameTraders also have the 19th advertised.

Indeed, it's certainly a leap into the deep end. However, I'm just as happy if I actually get the copy, special deal be damned. And, since my lack of finance/job, I'm forced to use the trade-in, which the clerk said'd work. I'm taking his word for it now, although when the time comes, his word'll be tested.

It does sound all shades of shifty. However, that's what the guy in the store said to do, so hopefully, I won't get junked around and actually manage to crawl out of this with BRINK in hand :D
