No Prey 2 talks at GDC

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 12:42 pm

As a lot of people I'm hyped about the game but we didn't get anything new since last August. And now it seems Human Head won't be able to talk about it at the Game Developers Conference.

Here's what Brian Karis (Lead graphics programmer) said on his twitter account:
Zenimax forced us to pull all Prey2 related talks from GDC. I'm pretty devastated by the news. This was to be my first conf talk.

Why Bethesda, why? It's not about showing 20 minutes of gameplay or showing a new trailer you planned to release at a later date, it's just TALK! Let these guys express themselves about what they created, what they are creating.

The game is still scheduled to release this year, so if you even pull talks about the game when will we have something new to discuss? This is really a weird behavior from Zenimax, it's not like there's a Developer Conference every months.

I truely hope there's a good reason behind this choice.

Was just about to post a 1UP article about the same thing. Here's the link:

Hopefully this doesn't mean the devs are having trouble with P2.
Canceling the GDC presentations and the fact that we haven't heard anything new from them since the summer has me a little paranoid.

I read about every website that had information regarding this recent news and so far it seems as if this game will take longer to be developed than I anticipated. This Fall apparently. Nevertheless, I would die inside if this game got cancelled. It really is the ONE game that I want more than any other game at the moment.

I don't think there's a problem with the development. Brian Karis was excited about his conference talk. I mean when you read here and there the way Human Head says things, it doesn't sound like there's some trouble, but well, you never know.
I think it's more about marketing strategy. Last year Bethesda got an event in April, maybe they want to keep all the new coverage of their games for this year's event, if they have one.

When the game was announced, it was said that it has been in development for 3 years and Bethesda is not the kind of publisher to cancel a game that late, when they trust in a project, they support it at least until its release so I'm not worried about that. I hope it won't be delayed though.

EDIT: I just read the 1UP article, he did a good summary of the main plausible reasons. But as he wrote at the end, there's no reason to believe the game's development is in trouble, only Human Head and Zenimax know it. It's definitely not a 'Halo 2' situation, I don't see how Human Head would only have the E3 demo after 3 years of work.

Again, I'm pretty sure it's part of their PR plan.

I almost had a heart attack when I first read the title to that 1up article, shame on the author for using such poor taste to grab the readers attention. Should have been titled differently.

As far as the talks being cancelled by Zenimax, PR is like a paranoid child. Who knows why it was canceled, probably for a reason that wouldn't even matter in the long run. Unless maybe it's because it's production time has been extended (to add multiplayer for example) or it's been delayed to fix bugs.

Might also be because of some big title releases comming out soon and they might feel that Prey 2 won't get the attention it deserves or that it would get lost in the mix.

Wow, yeah. The page address even says reasons-zenimax-cancel-prey-2. That's real poor.

Anyway it's a shame, this game sounds very intriguing and I'd love to hear more about it. Guess we'll have to wait a bit longer!

So is that a sign that it may get pushed back?

Why they should push it back? It could be something new for us and maybe with a good marketing a lot of people would buy it. If Human heads is not working on it they could just tell us something.

This is a game I have loved ever since I first saw it. I go a cple months where I forget about it and then it pops into my head and I go watch the E3 stuff again and sit here like "YES! YES!!!" then I look for new info and never find any. Haha. I really hope something isnt wrong with the games development hopefully Zenimax feels like they truly have something special here and want to plan a big PR push around it.
