Is there no other way to get the unusual gem priced then to join the thief's guild?, thats rely weird to force players to join a guild just to be able to do something.

The gem is part of a Thieves Guild quest, therefore regardless of the price, you wouldn't be able to sell it even if you wanted to. Wiki Stone of Barenziah for more information.

Well i rely don't care if i can sell it or not, i just don't want to join the thief's guild or have the gem's stuck in my inventory...don't think that a Dragonborn would steep so low to become a thief. The gems was not marked as stolen, they was free to take...so it makes no sense that the guy in Riften says..."the only way you could get a hold of this is if you stole it"?

I feel that way also. Another is that quest to start the DB questline. Most my character want nothing to do with the DB, but I got that dang quest sitting there in my journal. Sometimes I'll do it and do the option to wipe out the DB just to get that dang quest out of my journal. Yeah I am a little anol that way.

... Yet you stole the gem in the 1st place? Surely whomever you took it from did not appreciate your actions!

On topic: aside from completing the quest or using console commands, you are stuck with the .5 weight gem for the rest of your hero's life.

Some of them are found in dungeons, so if you don't know better you'll just pick it up.

I just found the gem in some bandit cave. You don't have to steal one to have one.

The worse quest that got me was Sheogorath's. I thought I was just helping a begger, next thing I know I'm in the realm of madness helping a Daedra Lord. WTH! A little warning would have been nice.

All quest items should have their own header - like Weapons, Apparel and so forth, and be weightless.

It's a pain the rear tripping over them in an already clunky inventory system.

If he lets the red crosshairs dictate in-game morality, then yes - taking a gem from a cleared dungeon is not technically stealing. Although, I can guarantee that whomever the OP took the 1st gem from would not have approved of him taking it.

Frankly, I think if you're going to turn your nose to an entire section of the game due to some sense of fantasy ethics, you should at least be consistent and not steal from anyone - regardless of location/hostility.

Just my 2c.

Besides, the reward for finding all of the stones is pretty incredible. I won't pass it up on future characters.

While that would be practical for the gamer, I still kinda like that things weigh something more or less relatable to their size and material.

Considering one is sitting on a dresser in the Solitude home, theft is not the only way to get one of these.

Ah yes. Though it is certainly necessary to find them all!

Besides, the VAST majority of them are close to an NPC who does not approve of you taking their shiny thing. The one is Solitude is a rare exception.

You don't get the crown of Barenziah when you complete it right?

And how can you guarantee that???, i did pick it up by mistake after retrieving some weapon that was protected by a Hagrave or what those ugly old witches is called...and so far i have not found ONE of them that is marked with red text...even the one you can take from the Jarl in Whiterun is not marked red and you can just grab it without steeling it....get your facts straight before you make a remark!

It's not labeled as stealing when you take them because they're part of a quest. A quest given to you by the Thieves Guild in which their main mission is to steal items of value. So just because it doesn't say "Steal Item" doesn't mean it's your does it? It was sitting on the Jarl's night stand so taking the gems is obviously theft. It's called the Thieves Guild for a reason. The only way to get items related to the guild is to steal them.

And as for having the gems in your inventory and the game making you join the Thieves Guild to get rid of them is basically like any other quest related item. When you find something that you need for a quest, you need to begin that particular quest in order to use or get rid of the said item.

Some are considered a stolen item even without the red mark. I picked up one in a place and the guard freaked. I had to sneak in and get it. Only ones that aren't considered stealing are the ones in dungeons.

It is not an equipable item, if that's what you mean. It goes to the loot desk with all of the other relics you steal during the Thieves Guild quest line.

Even if you could equip the crown, it would not fit. The graphic for the completed piece is monstrous - at least 2-3 times the size of a Nirnian head.

The beggar's dialogue and the fact the gives you the hipbone of pelagius the third should set warning bells ringing if you're remotely savvy with the lore of the game. ESPECIALLY if you have ever played TES4: Shivering isles. Besides... in the end you help cure pelagius' soul of his insanity and free him from Sheogorath's domain, what you did was good through and through!

Right when I talked to the man whom gives this quest to you and explains how is lord controls his madness and whatnot I immediatly figured I was about to pay Sheogorath a visit. To those of you who don't know, Sheogorath is the prince of madness. He was the main aspect of the amazing DLC for Oblivion called Shivering Isles.

Not only that; the guy who gives you the quest (Dervenin) is quite possibly the high priest of Mania himself.

As far as the Unusual Gems go.... you wind up with one if you buy the Solitude house - so it's OBVIOUSLY not stolen.... Just don't pick it up.... as long as it sits on the dresser, you don't have a problem.

As I recall quest items do not add weight. Test it check carry weight before and after picking one up. And also why would you want quest warning? Hey do this quest...BUT watch out because it's a Daedric quest and you will complain if there are suprises!!!

Well.... some of us won't do Daedric quests at all. I personally will do Azura and Meridia but none of the others. I don't need it to warn me though. After Lod and the dog, I just looked all of them up so I don't get zapped again.
