So, when I encountered the game breaking glitch that corrupted all my saves via doing anything in the Come Fly With Me quest(the DLC error), I didn't play for a few days. All of my saves were corrupted and I lost 12 hours of my life. I eventually got over it, started a new character, and decided not to do that quest. Here I am doing the "Oh My Papa" quest for the Great Khans when I go to talk to Melissa. She no longer exists, even though the arrow is pointed at her encampment. I've been extremely upset since I saw that other users were experiencing this and there was no fix. Then I saw that people found a solution: Return the game. I still have my receipt, so why not? The game has been out for a month. There have been people unable to play a game they have owned for a month and I have lost any respect I had for it(don't get me wrong, I love most aspects of the game), but there is absolutely no excuse for some of these glitches. I honestly feel like I'm owed an apology, a refund, a fix, and extra money for my wasted time. Anyone else feel this way?

There's another way to get the Khans on your side I believe.. with some book you can find on somebody.. can't remember who. And the patch will be out in a few weeks. Obviously it's up to you whether to return the game or not.. If you can get the full refund. I'd most likely shelve it until the patch if I was having problems with it. 12 hours really isn't losing anything in a game you can probably play for 200 or more hours.. I personally have been playing for 150 hours. And that's after starting over a 30 hour play just because I didn't like the character I had built. I haven't even gone into the strip yet.
Step 1. don't download the DLC
Step 2. Make a boat load of saves... use other devices to save on as well if you can.. internal hard drive.. usb drive..(now that you can.) I know it sounds like a pain but I haven't lost more than about an hour of play due to glitches.. I just reload.
Permanent save at each major area, permanent save at each level up.. save before you enter a building, save before you talk to someone.. save if you've been running through the wastes for awhile, save if the game gets a bit choppy.. (choppy usually means I've been playing for more than six hours and the game is about to freeze.) Fast travel's and loading zones can also make the game freeze if you do a bunch in a row. I"m assuming this is why so many people have a problem on the strip.. lots of loading zones.. I'll have to see when I get there.
Step 3. Patiently wait for patch.. It hasn't even been a month yet.

I don't really see any sense in returning a game that will eventually be all fixed up.. but then again if you wait long enough you can buy the game of the year edition with all the DLC included for the same price that the original game cost. Plus it'll all be patched.

Step 1. I didn't download any DLC. If you've read up on the glitch, you'll find it has nothing to do with DLC, it just mentions that the required DLC can't be found and then it states that it can't find your hard drive.
Step 2. I save all the time and haven't experienced the DLC glitch lately, but the game breaking for me now is the Khan's quest. I'm sorry, but when I pay full price for a game I expect to be able to play what I payed for when I payed for it, regardless of what the problem is. I've had more problems with this game than any other, and I am not 80 hours in when the newest glitch of Melissa disappearing was discovered.

Also, making tons of permanent save doesn't help if this glitch corrupts ALL of your saved games.

I don't think it really does corrupt all of your saves. I think this is what happens.
Person X is rotating a bunch of save games. They play for 10 hours straight. 2 hours in, the corruption happens. There is no way for them to know this while they're playing the game.
They continue to play for another 8 hours, constantly saving over all of their old good saves with new corrupt ones. They quit the game for a while.
Later, they come back to play and see that their latest save has been corrupted. They go to load all of their other games and see they are corrupt too.
They jump to a conclusion and believe that one corrupt save corrupted a bunch of other good saves, when in reality, they had been making corrupt saves for many hours.

This could be confirmed by someone quite easily, if they had a set of known good saves, one corrupt one and at least two memory devices.

No, I had tested it with specific safe saves. It corrupted ALL of them, and for a while would not let me start a new game.

I love how people keep suggesting, "just don't download the DLC" as a solution to the DLC glitch. Hello? is there anybody in there?

there is no DLC to download.

There were a number of DLC that shipped as pre-order exclusives from various vendors (Gamestop, Best Buy, Walmart, etc).

would have thought most of us on this site are contemplating returning the game,most of us will be stuck having to take a credit note or exchange for another game with the usual exuse of "no refunds darlin".lots of games have the odd graphical glitch but how this one managed to fly out of the warehouse is beyond me.

I agree that save file management is a must. I have the DLC and no corruption. I think the issues are random and like aforementioned, encouraged by long stretches of playthrough. People are not making much effort to read through earlier posts.

The oh my papa quest was one that I encounters lockup, but it was not due to this quest. Backed up and started again without problems. As for Melissa, you don't need her to accomplish the desired outcome of the quest. I'll refrain from spoiling, but you can acheive all of the desired outcomes without Melissa.
