1 problem I see

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:07 pm

I recently bought Crysis 2 for 360 and that is peer to peer on both Xbox live and PSN, but it has dedicated servers on PC like Brink will as well. The connections are horrible in Crysis 2, way too much lag. I'm not tech savvy to know how to improve Peer to Peer connections or even if they can be improved, but I do think that this will cause a bit of a stir.

They fixed the Crysis 2 lag. It did get better. However it all depends on who is hosting and what not.

Almost every console game has P2P connections, the lag in Crysis 2 was specific to Crysis 2, and should not be generalized for all games with P2P connections.

Peer to peer will always lag. PC has dedicated servers. Play on PC if you want 0 lag.

not trying to generalize, apologies if it came off like that. i'm just concerned that's all. this game is pretty much a multiplayer game and having connectivity issues will kill it's playability wouldn't you agree?

I think I just pee'd from laughing so hard.
Even the best PC dedicated servers still lag
(Even just a bit, there is no such thing as 0 lag)
Also, if you want to reduce P2P lag, increase you connectivity,
buy a new router or call and upgrade your ISP.

Also, please don't listen to PC elitists, bias will blind you.
(That's not putting down the excellent platform that is the PC)

Almost all people have the ability to host games, with no lag, even on P2p games, it isnt the P2p or the connections that is the issue, it is the net coding, and Bethesda and SD are NOTORIOUS for their amazing net code, so unless you do get the Subichre Host that actually cannot handle hosting it will be the Closest experience on a console to a dedicated server you will ever have, overall, brink will be lagless, unless the host is downloading stuff ect, or its your fault, and your isp svcks.

And the post right above this one, is 100% right. Dedicated servers can have worse lag then P2p with bad netcode, at times.

I just read a new Q&A and my question was addressed so I'm happy

it said they optimized their net code or something to that effect.

I wonder what the minimum broadband speeds have to be for a decent connection. My is around 17MBs down and 1MB up and is the best I can get in the area at the moment.

The only real ways to increase P2P performance is to play with people closer to you and to get better internet, neither of which are completely valid ideas.

Yeh Id rather have P2P with people living near me who all have badass internet than play on a server across the country. Its all subjective.

But I love blaming my poor skills and screwups on "lag".

It's shared host so I'm not sure if that will do anything to help. Hopefully it won't cause too much of a problem every time someone quits.
