PC problem

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 10:04 pm

I woke up yesterday morning and tried to turn my PC on. All it does now is power on for 2 seconds, and then shut off.

It keeps repeating this until I shut the surge protector off.

I'm not very tech savvy, so I don't even know what is going on.

I know I haven't been really specific here, but any help would be appreciated.

Maybe your PSU is getting old and can't give the boost your pc needs to start. Also, check if your computer parts are well placed, maybe some vibration loosened them. If that were the case, your BIOS would emit a sound signal to tell you so. I'd go for the PSU first. My two cents.

Check http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp out.

EDIT: PSU = Power Supply Unit

Happened to me before with computers at work. Power surge damaged the motherboard. It's another possibility if you verify the PSU isn't the problem.

I've just got a hold of my Uncle who is really great with computers. He suspects its the PSU unfortunately.

It's okay though, this PC was only a cheap prebuilt, I'm planning to build a serious gaming PC within the next month. So all's not lost I suppose.
