My problem with DLC

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:50 am

The only problem that I had with DLC is that it made me feel disconnected with the rest of the wasteland ( mothership zeta and obichtion anchorage). I know its DLC and its something that is added to the game and if I dont like it dont buy it, but I do like it just wish (if they can) make it apart of the wasteland. So I wonder how they going to do it in NV.

Funny, you just named the two DLCs that I hate, and it was because there was a huge disconnect between them and the rest of the game, not just physically, but thematically as well. I'm all for any DLC for New Vegas being more like the Pitt, or especially like Point Lookout. I love my exploring!

Yeah I'm down for any DLC they put out for NV but I hope it goes well with the rest of the game.

Once I'm ready for DLC I've already played the **** out of the game. New missions in the same play area just isn't refreshing enough. I want the DLC to offer new settings. You get all sorts of fresh possibilities with new scenery.

I did'nt mind the DLC for fallout 3 to be honest...i know it was'nt perfect ( far from it infact ),but it at least made me play the game longer....it also like maybe most of us,made you buy it to see what it was like.
I did'nt mind going to point look out,the pitt or the alien ship...it was different than the wasteland. One feeling you get with DLC like that ( shivering isles included ),is the fact its different, but when you get back to the waste land you feel you've missed it.....like being away from home for a while, then you return & glad your at home again.
Bethesda them-selves know the DLC was'nt perfect...but they did that ( yes to make money ),but for other reasons too. Another reason is to get a feel about what people would like /dislike etc.Its very hard to please everyone, but at least they learn ( or try to ),so maybe future DLC maybe better because of the feedback they got.
Just my view :)

Also , i know most of you want expansion rather than DLC, mee too. But if they just do DLC ,i along with many others will still buy it.

The thing that I didnt like from Mothership Zeta is that it felt like a dungeon same like the metro tunnels. When im in there I just can't wait to get out cause its so linear like there is only one way to go. At lest obichtion anchorage was some what more open. Not saying that they should have tunnels, sewers or aliens in the game, cause they should its different compared to the wasteland. just that the whole DLC shouldn't be a dungeon. And like what I was saying before it should be more connected to the wasteland like some ppl should talk about what ever DLC has been add like " Oh my I think I saw a UFO in the sky last night". And maybe once in awhile you will find a lone alien wondering around in towns at night abducting ppl and you can save them or just watch. Like if they was to add the common wealth or Area 51 in DLC it would work in NV as well.

Spell check?

But I do agree, if they add DLC it should fit in with the game, I dont wanna go into a simulation of a war, or into a spaceship. I would rather explore more places that have a 'main quest' as well as a few side quests.

I liked O:A because it was distant and I think that was the point. It was to provide a little more backstory to the world before the bombs hit. Not gonna speak about MZ

Well I'd rather have DLC's that take place in the current age of F:NV (2281/2280) and on earth but I actually like O:A over all other DLC's and Mothership Zeta is on 4th place for me :)
So I'd like it for them to create expansions on areas they didn't include from Van Buren in this game.
Would be a great way to use the rest of the lore they've already written and expand on the universe.
But I wouldn't mind another simulation or extra-terrestrial abduction. ;)

personaly my take on the DLCs

Best to worst

95% The Pit (I realy dont get the so called moral ambiguity in that one. seriously up untill that point you have probably beenslaughtering Female Raiders by the dozens up to that point, suddenly the fact that you find out that one of them has a baby is an issue? Aparently they thought that all of the Female raiders up to that point were barre and or that the Raiders both male and female did not have kids of there own someplace that they might have cared about. Honestly how do you think a settlement like lil lamplight came from? no advlts, and as soon as your old enough to have kids out you go!

85% Broken Steel: my only beef with this is that if they had originaly designed the game with the questline in broken steel as part of the core questline things would have been better(Bascialy you would have the option to side with the BOS, Side with the "good" col, or side with eden, more accuratly, side with Eden you put in the virus the Col ends up at the airforce base with his remnant with the option to blow up the crawler or the Citadel, if you blow up the crawler you get the option to go back and take out Eden. blow up Eden and head back you have the option of Sideing with the Col or with the BoS, head down to the Crawler and you get the choice of blowing up Eden if hes still alive, The Citadel, or The Crawler.

85% Point Lookout: Ok this one gets a lower rating than it could have gotten because it frankly felt rushed out the door and was buggy as heck. but still a good expansion pack

80% Operation: Anchorage. Nice expanion overall, the "Gary" and "ammo" exploit though was something they could have left out.

75% Mothership Zeta: would have rated higher with me if I did not need to reload every other section. then it would have probably rated 80 or 85

It's not about that really IMO.
It's about that Ashur wants to establish a town that helps people, he uses the slave thing as a temporary measure because no matter how much of a silver tounge you have it's going to be very difficult to convince a bunch of people to go to a highly irradiated area with a lot of hostile beings to repair a steel mill and make it functional.

It was easier with the raiders because he could promise them all the ammo they could carry.
Raiders probably saw it as a good way to get better gear and to always be sure to have ammo whenever they head back home.
And to establish themselves as a great military faction ready to crush and take anything in their way.

But Ashur slowly wants to turn the raiders over to the "good" side and have them as his own personal army to protect a city that BOS decided to burn down while it in fact was a goldmine.
And he wants to find a cure for the slaves and hope that he even they can be called citizens at one point instead of being slaves.
He even lets his wife do experiments on their own child for the sake of the people.

Wherner on the other hand doesn't give a flying [censored] about the town or it's vast amount of resources.
He just wants to free the slaves because it's "the right thing to do".

Ashur sees a big picture.
Wherner only sees now.

At least this is my interpretation of it.
(But it's been maybe a half year since I played through the Pitt so I might be a little rusty on the subject)

I think the whole idea behind that DLC was to take the players view on the phrase

"Do the ends justify the means?"

i think the main problem with OA was that it focused on the shooting mechanic which was pretty clunky and you couldn't explore same with MZ it was a corridor shooterwhich is fine foe a while but not the 6-8 hours it took to beat. i think the reasons the pitt BS and PL were better recieved is that they allowed us a certain freedom to explore and PL and the pitt had a different vibe than the capital wasteland which really helped set them apart.

it's obvious bethesda was trying out different things with the dlc. i'd expect any dlc for new vegas to be much like the main game with an empasis on exploring and hard choices but i'd like to see tham try some new things to they help keep the game fresh.

I thought all the DLC fit well into the fallout universe.. While OA was linear I still found it fun.. and you were playing the history of the fallout world.. so it fit. Mothership zeta while also mostly linear was still great fun.. new sci-fi weapons and weird area's to explore... . in every fallout there have been alien weapons and crashed spaceships.. exploring one of those spaceships seemed logical to me. The pitt if you think about it is extremely linear also.. Just more explorable and felt a bit more open when in reality it took place in basically only three different areas. Obviously Point Lookout was great if you are an explorer.. but I'm betting people didn't like it as much because there was so much to do that it was easy to get lost in what the main goal was.
In reality the Fallout DLC's beat most other games DLC's by miles so I can't complain much.

I liked all the DLC and hope we get some in New Vegas - like maybe a silver mine or two to exploit/explore.

I liked OA because it had blue sky and it broke up the monontany of the game. Same goes for MZ. I didn't care for MZ and couldn't wait to get out, at least it broke the monontany up. Maybe without it, I wouldn't have played Fallout 3 as long as I do. Fallout 3 is the same thing over and over again, visually, so seeing something besides dull grey brown enviroment was good. Yes the DLC could have been better but it did break it up.
