My problem with Dragon Priest Masks.

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:21 am

This is a short and sweet complaint....I am a Pure Mage character...I wear no armor and use my Alteration spells to buff my Defence....Dragon Priest Masks have EXCELLENT stats that would help me out a lot....They are however "Armor"....I lose my 3 times boost to my defensive buffs.....So the masks do me little good in combat.....bummer.....THE END

Yep, pretty terrible design for anyone playing on a console.

I also hate how they're confined to light or heavy armor. I play a light warrior/assassin build, so using any of the exceedingly useful heavy masks takes a massive chunk out of my armor rating. Perhaps they could be assigned a class when you find them, like a leveled item, but instead of falling into a tier based on level, they become whatever your preferred armor type is. Could even be classed as clothing for the mage-oriented masks, perhaps based on your Alteration level? I dunno....

Well, at least I have Volsung....

Consol is the way that I play...Had a pong console 37 years ago, then a Atari 2600, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Cube, PS1 & PS2, Xbox and now the 360....The only problem I have with consoles is not being able to MOD games like this one....sigh....lol

Yes and how do you think they look on an Khajiit, bad fitting and uncomfortable does not describe it.
Ad that their stats is not impressive if you are master in enchanting anyway.

Prefer cirlcets and earrings.

They look pretty metallic to me.

Well save for that one... but by the time you go through the effort to get it, you can just make something better.

My problem with the Dragon Priest Masks is :

Spoiler

THERE IS NOT ENOUGH OF A NARRATIVE TO GO WITH THEM. Jesus, Bethesda dropped what could have been a very badass ball on that one. Same thing goes for that pointless dragon in Blackreach.

The invisible face bug is pretty creepy though, first time I turned the camera to look at it I about crapped on myself. Though, it was 3 a.m... and I was probably intoxicated....

I think perhaps the game referred to is The Witcher 2, rather than two worlds 2, but could be wrong. Though having played both of those games I enjoyed them, sure they have their problems but no game is perfect. They are certainly very different than the TES games, but certainly an enjoyable distraction.

They're too ugly and don't fit into my Argonian's head anyway without crushing his snout.

I love circlets. Mage's Circlet is most likely my favorite because of the useful little Magicka bonus.

I don't get the problem here... Sure it svcks that they don't fit with your character but they had to give them some stats, and heavy or light armor makes by far the most sense.

Mages robes have an Armor value of ZERO...the only armor I have is from my defensive buffs. My defensive buff are 3 times as strong when wearing...NO ARMOR....no shoes, helmet, bracers or chest armor....That means my buff of 80 defence is then 240 defence if I wear no armor....by putting on a Dragon Priest Mask my defenceive buffs will not be 3 times as strong.....240 armor by way of buff is not that strong...I am killed with 2 physical strikes vs strong opponents...if I wear my mask I would only have an 80 armor buff....would then be one hit killed by chumps half the time......that is my problem with the Masks.

Some of them have Mage stat enhancements and are useless if you are playing a pure Mage.....weak

That's an entirely one sided view. If they weren't classified as armor, I wouldn't get my Custom Fit or Windwalker perks in light armor.

Many of the masks are tailored for certain styles of play because of the stat boosts....the Mask that I received from a Mages college quest is 100% mor magic regeneration and is classified as armor....a pure/textbook mage does not wear armor but wears robes, shoes, gloves and a circlet....I can wear none of the masks without taking a character killing drop in my buff defence.

one persons idea was to make the masks the same armor type as the style of character you are playing....that has many flaws because of hybrid characters but for there to be ZERO masks for a pure mage to wear is a big oversight on Bethesdas part.

Given most of the masks are beneficial for spell casters, the obvious solution was to make the alteration perk not check for helmets. Even the helmet that boosts alteration is heavy. What a brilliant idea, let's make an item that boosts a skill while simultaneously rendering 3 of the perks in that skill useless.

WTH. No Intellivision? I got that when I was around 9 or 10. All the kids with their crappy Ataris were way jealous.

As far as the OP goes, meh. The armor rating thing does kind of svck but really, you can disenchant some robes; then enchant a ring and a necklace and pretty much get a better effect anyway. I forget the name of the one I carry around but it has a waterbreathing enchantment and makes prices 20% better (Vokun? Vocus?) Whatever).

My biggest complaint about the Dragonpriest masks is that there's nowhere to display them. That in itself would provide about 10 times more motivation to go out and find them all. As it stands now I put all mine in a nighstand at Breezehome. Lame-osity.
