Problem with Enchanting? I could use some insight.

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:52 pm

The amount of points in enchanting were around 47-50 when I tested this. Perks include 3/5 levels of the Enchanter Perk. My character is level 19.

I bought boots from a vendor with an enchantment to increase carry capacity by 35 points. I decided to disenchant them to create more items and increase my carry capacity further.

The problem is that the gear I make using that enchantment won't go above 8 points of increased carry capacity.

Is this normal? Even when I raised my enchanting level to 50 and got the insightful enchanter perk there was no difference in the quality of my enchantments.

Am I doing something wrong or is it a glitch?

I was using petty and/or common souls to power the enchantments. Will using grand souls help create more powerful enchantments? Or will I not see much difference until I max out enchanting at level 100?

Any insight would be appreciated. If it helps to know, I'm playing on the Xbox 360.

The quality of the item you disenchant doesn't affect your enchants, it only gives you the spell to use. Definitely use a grand soul for the best results; petty souls are mostly only useful for grinding enchant skill on daggers or w/e. 50 enchant with insightful perk should allow you to make useful items like 25ish fortify skill or fire damage stuff.

Don't you need the Corpus Enchanters perk to increase those skill enchantments?

Yes a more powerful Gem will give you a greater skill bonus. I recently created some + Carry Capacity boots and the highest I could get without potions was 35. That's with 85 Enchanting, 5/5 and Skill Enchanting Perk.

Shoulda kept the boots man, haha.

No, that's for health/magicka/stamina. Insightful is for skills.

edit: BTW, I've heard that the Corpus perk is broken in patch 1.3 and doesn't do anything. I never take that one so I can't verify personally.

Ew that's not reassuring news...im aiming for that right now on my mage. So far (on the pc) no patch has broken my game yet. Hopefully thats not the case, but ill still get it and test it out before and after the perk.

And yeah I was getting confused with the stamina vs carry weight thing.

don't plan on heavily enchanting items too soon, its pretty hard, you need all 5 initial levels of the first perk on the enchanting tree and then i take the 3 perks right up the middle ending with double enchantment perk, i do that by level 50...in the mean time collect soul gems, fill em up, and just enchant stuff till your enchanting gets to 100, it needs to be at 100 with all the perks right up the middle of the tree, then you can enchant to get 25% magic reduction cost and maximum other various enchantments, i will enchant some things before i max out my enchantment skill but it wastes a lot of gear since you end up redoing everything once you get the double enchantment perk....so i mainly just focus on raising the skill and getting those specific enchantment perks, and i give myself till level 50 to do that and then you're all set....you can double enchant everything to its full power and if you want you can use enchanting potions, to ever further enhance items.
