EA Producer Says Gears Of War Has "Literally The Worst W

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 7:18 am

EA didn't say this. Chuck Beaver, the story producer for Dead Space, said it. The comment wasn't endorsed by EA, nor did Mr. Beaver have anything at all to do with Mass Effect 3.

Please actually read the article before posting before turning this into an anti-EA flame thread.

If he's talking about the first game, then yes, it had terrible writing. It got much better in Gears of War 2 though. Gears of War 3 really caught my attention though, since Karen Traviss was lead writer. Her books based on the series were really good.

Top comment on the article got it right.
Oh in that case proceed then.

GoW had the best story ever. Why? Because you're a soldier and told to blow [censored] up. They don't try to force stupidly detailed and irrelevant plot down your throat.
Yeah, MGS got really annoying when it got to those parts. And the dialog just drags ON AND ON AND ON AND ON!

Marcus's Dad!

SO THAN YOU PLAY AS A BLACK GUY AND YOU DO [Totally freaking censored] THINGS SUCH AS PLAY FOOTBALL!

Anyways. Gears of War is obviously not meant to have the greatest, jaw-dropping story in the world... so what exactly is the point in showing this fact off? Furthermore, since when did what one guy has to say about a third-person shooter really matter? This isn't so much a subject to discuss as it is to say "Well that guy makes a EXCELLENT point!" or "Well... that guy is good at pointing out the obvious!"

That being said, Gears of War definetly does not have the worst storyline to ever be seen in a game. Let's take a look at...

Resident Evil 1 (Original)
Darkseed
Darkseed 2
COBRA

And need I even mention...

ZELDA CD-I TITLES. OH YEAH, THOSE WERE VIDEO GAMES TO WEREN'T THEY?

God forbid that modern games don't have the worlds most ground-breaking, heart-tugging story ever to be seen IN THE ENTIRE FREAKIN UNIVERSE?! US? SPOILED? HELL NAH, WE ARE THE GREATEST CRITICS TO EVER TOUCH THE EARTH!

Now if you will excuse me, I am going to proceed in playing The Harry Potter drinking game. You are welcome to join me if it will make you happy-beans.

Gears of War has the worst writing in games? Yeah, and Tommy Wisseau is an amazing director isn't he!?

contains atrocious, offensive violations of story basics.
that describes ME3's ending beautifully.

I have not played GoW but from the look of it, it's meatheads killing aliens, I don't expect goo writing. I expect bad puns and macho bravado.

Does it have bad writing? yes, but the worst? hardly, Mass Effect 3's writing is terrible, but again not that worst out there.

Play Resident Evil 1, that has possibly the worst writing in any game I've played.

You'd think someone responsible for a game franchise that has a rail shooter spinoff would be familiar with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAWxw0wmeNQ

Difference being that it's so bad it's good :lmao:

Though i wouldn't excatly give awards to Dead Space either, it's an entertaining, grotesque shooter, but that's it.

Gears Of War has the worst writing? Damn, that guy's got some ridiculously high standards. I can think of tons of other games with far worse.

EA DICE has the title for the worst stories.. for all of their games with em

Especially in the last 3 BFs.

They were the only Battlefields with a story.
Everything before that was just instant action renamed campaign.

That's an entirely subjective assessment from one perspective. But the writing isn't great, or good, or decent. But the worst? Not by a long shot.

How do you feel about that?

I dont feel any ways about it. But, I will make a mental note of it. That it was bashed for bad writing.

There's a bunch of that, yeah, and the first game wasn't really the best. By the second game, however, there's a lot of serious points that go on, such as soldiers committing suicide or your best friend http://youtu.be/_lE03vrC9Rw because they were horrifically tortured, and plenty of ugly sides of war. Sure, it has it's funny moments, but it can draw you back into serious moments too.

As you do play the game, you go grow attached to the characters. That's all most games really need to do, so when there's a big emotional moment, it can bring forth the emotional response intended. To just say this game is only meat heads killing aliens and being super kewl awesome badassses with lots of blood is a line of ignorance or someone bashing it.

I honestly thought the scene in Gears of War 2 when Dom finds his wife was incredibly well done. I almost cried. I never played the 3rd one, but overall, the series favored its gameplay over anything.

I haven't played it in a long time, and I don't remember much about the writing but RE1 was a great game. I had no idea what it was when I picked it up and was amazed at how much I liked it.

The only thing I truly dislike about the story is that the locusts are supposed to be humans mutated by the source of power from the earth.

But the locusts get mutated all over again when they come into more contact with it.

Just makes me face palm a little

But otherwise it had some ok moments, except they pulled alot of crap out of their ***** to create new enemies.

I thought the locust was the result of the human race being isolated underground for all those years, causing a different evolution than the groundwalkers. I don't think they were mutated by the immulsion.
