PS3 Storage

Post » Sat Jun 25, 2011 7:33 am

Ok it has just been brought to my attention after I started downloading my two free games from PSN that I'm quickly running out of storage. After I deleted a whole boatload of Game Data Utilities that I don't use anymore as well as the majority of my saves for the same games, I'm currently at 22GB/74GB. Now LittleBigPlanet is about 2GB and inFamous is about 7GB that leaves me 13GB of storage to put AC: R, Skyrim, Battlefield 3, and probably a few more games on.

So is there a way to get more storage without having to replace my HDD with one that has more storage?

Get a cord that links one hdd to another hdd with more space broseph.
edit: Didn't specify. Its a sony ps3 harddrive connecter (I think) and go from there. I seen one in the Eb games near me, and my city is relaltively small.

Ahh makes sense. So just buy a new HDD and connect it to the PS3 with the connector? And would it work with an SSD?

Well I wouldn't really know much about the ssd as I have never really worked with them before. But I know for sure it works with the hdds.

And would it work with an SSD?

I see no reason why it wouldn't though SSDs are a complete waste for the PlayStation 3.

Do you have to install your PS3 games to the hard drive? One of the things I like about my PS2 is that I just pop in the disc and can play right away.

It takes like five minutes tops, and most just install in the background.

What's the advantage? Does it speed up loading times by 0.005 seconds? :P

I don't think I've seen a mandatory install for a few years now, though I don't really have that many PS3 games. Quite a few of the earlier games I've played required a small 1-2 GB install, and MGS4 has one per chapter.

It might be more convenient to just replace the HDD. All you would have to do is buy an external HDD with just enough space to hold all of the data on your current hard drive, but you'd have to convert it to the FAT32 file system assuming it isn't already like that. Then just pop in the new hard drive and copy your data onto it.
