PS3 Upgrade

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:31 am

So I'm upgrading my PS3 from a lousy 40g to a 120g next week and wondered if anyone has had any issues I can look out for?
I've printed the manual or a help guide to help me through it but I read someones comment about issues they have had about a hard drive update or something?

I have the old style PS3 and wondered if anyone has had any problems with upgrading their PS3.

Why are you upgrading to such a small HDD?? Bigger ones aren't much more expensive. If you mean you're buying a new PS3 Slim, then there shouldn't be problems.

I thought a 120g would have been big enough seeing as I only play Fallout regulary (I can delete the other games off if I need too) and I'm sticking with my old Playstation design.

The price difference between 160GB and a 640GB one is £10 . . .

Also I'd recommend going for a 7,200 RPM one for faster access, if you have the money. Or if you've got even more money then go for a 10,000 RPM one, but these are more expensive and harder to get hold of.

EDIT: If you've got even more money, an SSD is a viable option too.

Update: I have upgraded my Playstation 3 and had difficulty to be honest. I didn't know we had to do a software update on the new hard drive which took practically half of my day but now it's done. Fingers crossed I don't run out of any space ..

I put a Seagate 500 GB internal hard drive in mine that runs at 5200 rpm. works great i love it only $90 and that was a year ago. You should have got a bigger drive 120 GB is small seems mute now but don't get the 7200 rpm they ware out much quicker.
