Psionic Archer; looking for inputadvice

Note: If you don't want to read all the fluff, please scroll to the bottom-- I have specific questions regarding Illusion/Restoration

I was toying around with the idea of a "Psychic Rogue," which was an illusion heavy Thief using a 1-handed sword. I find melee to be painfully boring combat style in this game (sword 'n board I found tolerable, but it grew tiresome after 20 levels or so), so perhaps Archery will be a safer bet. I've gone the stealth archer route for two Skyrim characters, as well as my main characters in both Morrowind and Oblivion-- but I've never thrown magic into the mix so I'm hoping this might cure my restart-itis if there is this new added element. Here's the description:

Class: Psionic Ranger
Race: Argonian
Description: Unarmored and extremely low on health, the Psionic Ranger will utilize bow, illusion, and destruction runes to make sure he is never struck in combat. If an enemy gets too close, it will be pacified/feared/frenzied and sniped from a distance. I'll be using runes from the Destruction school and passive benefits from Restoration.
Stone: The Apprentice
Shouts: Aura Whisper, Throw Voice
Build: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#97200
Restrictions:
  • No armor whatsoever, however gloves are permitted if they boost bow damage.
  • Unless necessary for the quest, I will only use two specific Dragon Shouts-- aura whisper and throw voice
  • Un-perked Alchemy is permitted, however health/stamina/magic potions will not be used-- only poisons and stat-boosters
  • Health will not be buffed very far, I'd like to be able to survive a max of about one hit on Master, so I'm thinking of roughly 200-250 health tops.
  • No fast travelling, however caravans are permissible
  • No companions / followers
Back Story: (in progress)

Questions: For ILLUSION; "is "Master of the Mind" enough to use my spells on the highest level draugr, or do I need to pick up Necromage in Restoration as well?

Since you're going that high on Illusion, getting Necromage just for that... that's a little bit too much, don't you think? I'd stick with Master of the Mind if I was you.

Necromage with Destruction on the other hand, that can be useful -especially when placing runes as a back up plan. But you're clearly not going that way. If you was, you'd have to spend 6 points in destruction tree, to get the fire runes working on full power (10 if you wanted all the 3 elements)

Hehe, you abandoned your pit fighter as well? Restartitis is a horrible, horrible disease :P. Anyhoo, nothing makes archery more boring than sneaking, IMO. It's an extremely repetitive game style and I doubt you'd need to use illusion enough to level it up to a decent level. Illusion and archery alone, with restoration for undead, should be much more interesting and dynamic.

You're right, stealth archery wouldn't require any school of magic. If I stay hidden, what's the point? Hm... perhaps instead of sneak, I'll throw runes into the mix. I'll tweak the build and edit my post with a link later.

In Destruction: Do the +damage perks (i.e. augmented flames) increase the related rune damage as well? Also, does a dual-cast rune do more damage? Does the "impact" perk affect dual-cast runes? I'm thinking runes with this build might be what I need...

I'm playing a sneaky archer who uses Illusion magic. Instead of putting perks into light armor, I've put them into Speech. This means I don't do well at all in straight up fights. Instead, I'll use Illusion magic to Frenzy some enemies in a room first. This usually clears out a few enemies. Then I'll snipe from afar or sneak up and slit their throats. Calming them works well if I don't one-shot them first. Just something to consider.
