Pulse and Flicker on Model Lights

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 6:37 am

Hey there, everyone. I'm having trouble with the flicker and pulse options on a custom light that has a model attached.

I created a custom model, and set up the .nif to allow for a light to be attached. However, when I create a custom light in the creation kit and load my model onto it, the flicker and pulse options do not work. The pulse option actually doesn't seem to work on anything for me, model or not. If I remove the model, the flicker option works. Is this a known bug, intentional, or is there something extra I have to set up in the .nif file? (I've checked the official torch object in the kit which has flicker enabled, but I don't see any flicker effects there either. I only see the pulse effect on some official lights.)

(If anyone is wondering how to set up a custom light position on the model, I wasn't able to find an explanation anywhere online, so here's what worked for me if anyone is interested: I pulled apart the torch object and figured out that if you create a NiNode and set its string value to "AttachLight", you can position the node anywhere you like. When you create a custom light in the kit with your model attached, the light will be centered on the node position. Just make sure not to "remove bogus nodes" on the mesh, or it will delete the empty NiNode).

Thanks for the help!

Anyone have any ideas on why the flicker and pulse settings don't seem to work right?

EDIT: I removed the light node from the object and just placed a light object where the node would be. Pulse still doesn't work, but flicker does now. I made a flicker effect with 0 movement, and it works okay. It's just going to be annoying to have to manually place lights for each of these objects now.
