After completing all the tasks from the steward and the favors for the Jarl in Markarth I was then given the option to purchase a house to become a thane. I waited and did a bunch of other things, and at about level 29, I went back to the steward to buy, and he acted like he'd never seen me before. The option is still in my misc quest list. Just to be sure I did some more redundant things the steward asked me to do, and I still didn't get the option from his discussion box. What happened? I thought maybe it was because I bought some places elsewhere and had become a thane in another city. But I researched, and that wasn't the problem. Any info on this would be appreciated.

Oh, I forgot to add that I'm on the pc version. I'm thinking that when Steam has updated the game maybe something weird happened. Anyways, the option to buy the hall in Markarth never comes up anymore yet it is still on my quest list. Odd.

Yes, shameless bump. Hoping maybe a mod will see this and have a possible answer or solution.

There's been an issue with Vlindrel Hall where not buying the house from the steward immediately can cause it to be unbuyable forever. Fortunately, since you're on the PC, you can console your way around this. Just use the command setstage Favor250 10 and it resets the Thane dialogue with the Jarl. Talk to him again about becoming Thane, he'll talk the whole nine, then try speaking to the Steward again. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks Gall - I've never used the console - do I type that in while in Markarth or does it not matter. I'll try it out either way.

That sort of command can be done anywhere. It makes the next stage/instructions for the quest pop up at the top of your screen like always.

Ugggh....it didn't work. I typed it in. The Jarl still gives not options and neither does the steward.

Anyone else have any console ideas to fix this?
