For those who've been here since the Oblivion modding days, you will remember PyFFI. It optimized the games 3d meshes without degrading visual quality and provided a solid FPS boost (5-10 or even 20 in some cases). Of course, in case of Skyrim, the meshes are obviously much more optimized by Bethesda because the vanilla game is very mesh-heavy (mountains are now static meshes instead of just simple heightmap terrain) and the game runs at 60fps or more on a moderately high-end PC. But surely that doesn't mean that the meshes can't be optimized even more and some more extra FPS can't be squeezed out. Now, it seems like PyFFI doesn't support optimizing Skyrim's meshes yet. There is scarce documentation online about a PyFFI for Skyrim and what I want to know is, is there work going on for such an utility? Or has the plan for optimizing meshes for Skyrim been dropped altogether?
