Quartermaster Mayes died on me

I finally completed that annoying "radio ranger update quest" and upon my return i notice that camp hope was under attack of those poisen fly's with yellow wings that usually kills boone as well if ge gots stinged.
And this wasn't the first time that the camp was under attack of those insects. But on the first attack some nameless npc died and i always thought that important character couldn't be killed of (something that oblivion allready perfected back in 2006.. :/) so i didn't paid that much attention to it.

So anyway, mayes got killed this and thus failling a quest called http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Restoring_Hope. I was waiting to completing that quests until the radio part was done since that chief said i needed to make sure i did every quest in that camp before going to nelson and when i see him now he doesn't talk about retaking nelson again.

Is there any way to fix this or find the codes to make mayes appear again? Oblivion had a large list of codes so in case the game ruins something you can always manually set things straight (which i needed to do as well in oblivion)
But will the console code set things straight again with the quest as well. The game showed me a message that quest: "restoring hope" failed.

Thanks anyway ;)

Other then that i don't have any problems running the game and i'm enjoying it alot. Allthough i've had a crash or 2 with my new monitor but i lowered some grafical isuess down like shadows/water/etc.. and i don't seem to have crashes anymore though.

I believe the only non-killable NPC is YesMan. All others are not immortal, except companions in non-hardcoe (when they're with you...if you fire them, they can die then). So yeah, he's gone.

If his corpse is still there you can resurrect him. But I think you'd have to also reset the quest, since it's Failed. I'm not good with console commands/the order you have to all the things in, but the wiki also has all the commands listed.

plus the ones for Fo3 mostly all still work/apply, too.

Outside of that, it'd be reload save game time. Save in lots of separate slots, and save often. :)

Yes, i know in rpg's i usally have +- 25 save slots open but this time i did to much stuff before i knew that mayes died.
I got the announcement that some quests failed thinking it was somekind of timed quest (had alot of open quests at that time) and he died in behind something as well making it difficult to see.

Do the corpses stay or do they dissappear? I was thinking of doing/trying that thing just before the main quest. Besides i still have to find out how to open the console as well.
In most/if not all the games its the "2" key under escape but it won't open here. I tried pressing every key on my keyboard or toggling "run under admin" but that didn't work either

Most corpses usually stick around a few days....UNLESS you've killed so many things in the meantime that the game that you reach the default corpse-limit & it starts to remove old bodies because of that. It can seem a bit inconsistent whether the bodies stick around tho - such as if you FT away, sometimes some disappear but some stay etc - so...maybe. :)

On US keyboards it's the '~' key that's under the ESC, and yes it's supposed to be the one to open the console. The first link I linked to above, the first few paragraphs mentions w/the issue that sometimes it doesn't work for some folks and makes some suggestions. Also in the Bugs section at bottom of the page. But I think sometimes it just won't work, and you may need a mod in order to get it to function.
