Quest Items Found Before the Actual Quest

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 11:19 pm

Hi All, I'm new to this forum. I'm looking forward to share with the Skyrim community through it.

Roaming around Skyrim I have been to places before an actual quest takes me there. I have found items that are part of quests, but when I get the quest I cannot complete it even though I have the item on me.

Is this a glitch/bug? Or, is there a work around to complete these quests?

Thanks!

I know I hate it when that happens, I have quite an extensive collection of random [censored] in my characters inventory now. Have you got all the latest updates? Also if your on the PC its easily fixed I'm told.

Being able to drop Quest Items is something they are looking at for the next patch. Until then, just know that they do not add weight to your encumbrance, so other than the room in the list, they take up no capacity in your character's inventory.

They fixed the issues where getting these things early messed up a couple of quests.

I wasn't aware that quests couldn't be finished...I know that I have finished a few and still have the quest item stuck in my inventory, but that is a problem that goes back at least to Oblivion, including Fallout 3 and FNV.

Indeed, the PC console is probably the tool you are needing to use, but I suppose we should establish whether or not you are playing on PC first.

The thing I really get annoyed with is that you can't do anything with most quest inventory until you use it in the manner the quest requires. I had an item for a long time and I didn't really want to do the quest right away but after realizing that the only way to get the item out of my inventory was to do the quest, I did the quest. But, then again, I've been able to finish the quests and get rid of the items. I haven't had the problem you (OP) are having.

I had a bunch of alto wine, and then I got a certain quest, and now the alto wine is stuck in my inventory. I can't drink it. I can't drop it. I have a bunch of them, so does the fact that one of them is a quest item mean that all of them are now weightless??? This would be a unique glitch to exploit if I had the opportunity to drink them. But one cannot use that particular quest item, so alas, no unlimited stamina potion for me.

I am glad my character is in AA.......

I hope it is one of the Quest Items they fix, Alto Wine is just a little too common.

i ran across this problem with a certain quest in windhelm, couldn't finish because 1 of the ingredients was already in my inventory, and it wouldn't recognize it or take it from me to complete the quest. bummer too cuz it was one I really wanted to finish being highly adept with alchemy.

my 2nd play through, Im doing quest's as I get them (or as close to that formula as possible) so I don't get to far ahead of myself like my first character did.

I would love to see them place a chest in all the player homes that will accept quest items and only quest items. That way you can have a clean inventory and still know were the items are.

I'm on a quest to get 24 special gems. My character has 5.

I don't care if they weigh something, or not. My main complaint is that the stupid things don't stack (note*). Now, in addition to those 5, I have 6 other quest items - all different - so that takes up 11 lines in my inventory. Plus I have some other quest items in my weapons and apparel columns.

*Note: An other character has 4, and they stack nicely.

At least give us an option to store quest items in a chest at home - or make a "quest items" colum/space in your inventory, so all quest items go there while you're carrying them around.

Thanks.

The bug with these is that they stack while they are called Unusual gem. Once you find out what they are they stop stacking.

Thats a good idea. Or when you go to store/sell/drop a quest item have a pop up that says "The item you are trying to sell/drop/store is a quest item, are you sure you want to proceed?" Your idea's better though.
