Quest rewards often don't make sense

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 3:06 pm

There is either something is wrong with my game or I don't really understand. Is it normal that a simple peasant (Klimmek) rewards me with half a thousand septims for just bringing up some food to High Hrothgar  whereas all I get for saving Whiterun from Mirmulnir is a lousy axe? I guess quest rewards are tied to the players level like in Oblivion, but I either did some harm to my game or they're often totally not appropriate.

Anyone else encountering stuff like that?

Many thanks in advance!

Also find it weird that I can like 100-500 gold for killing a camp of bandits or killing a dragon for a town.... I mean really, im going to go kill a DRAGON, and am the only one able to do so yet you reward me with such a rubbish amount of pocket change? Lol...

Exactly, yeah.
I handed over two (very rare) flawless sapphires (1,000 gold value) so I could get a 200 gold reward, and some halfassed gold necklace. The total value still didn't make up for it. Being a hero in Skyrim is definitely a thankless job.

Quest rewards are definitely nonsensical.

bounties are supposed to encourage/entice people to risk their lives to kill an enemy of the hold. 100 bucks for a dragon is absurd. i don't even bother with the bounties anymore.

marise (the food vendor in riften) asks for some ice wraith teeth. i can do that. what does she give me? something like 20 gold and a pheasant. marise, have you ever fought an ice wraith? obviously not or you would know what a steaming pile that reward is.

civil war: my reward is....being able to buy a bugged house for 13k. i won the war for you...and i only get the option of buying a house?! same goes for whiterun. i saved your whole worthless settlement, and i get a worthless axe and the opportunity to buy a house.

there are so many, too many to list. tons of worthless/out of balance rewards.

btw, i got 750 from klimmek. level dependant gold reward? i could have sworn on another playthrough he gave me 1000.

there are good rewards though. for about 15 min of work, the book of love quest gives you the agent of mara (+15 mag resist). that is a great reward for doing just about nothing.

True, yeah. And that alchemist lady in Riften, who wants 20 nirnroots along with other ingredients has a nice reward: access to her awesome potions chest every couple of days. If you don't like them they're still worth a ton of gold.

I just finished a quest for General Tullius and he was like "Take this BLADE as a reward for taking over The Pale" and gave me a regular, unenchanted Banded Iron Shield. This was at level 51.

The same thing happened to me (was level 53) and I got pretty angry. I didn't care for recieving good loot at that point, but the fact that the devs were too lazy to make sure you got a blade instead of a random item was pretty shocking.

My favourite disproportionate quest reward was in Falkreath.

I walked into the bar, and some guy wanted me to take the ashes of his friend to the priest... the priest who was LITERALLY in the chair right next to him. No joke. So, I turned 15 degrees towards the priest, and gave him the ashes. He thanked me and gave me 1,200 gold for moving my mouse like 400 pixels to the right.

Ya I agree also. I did a delivery quest between 2 people inside the same city non the less and got 1k gold. Yet I go into a dungeon and kill a ton of stuff including some boss and only get like 500 gold and sometimes less.

The only quest I didn't mind as I found it kinda funny is the guy gives you only 5 gold after risking your life in a dungeon then you talk to his apprentice without him knowing it to get the rest of it.

Sort of in the same vein, I found Narfi's (the bum in Ivarstead) dead sister's amulet, and he gives me a pile of rare alchemical ingredients... void salts and a bunch of other off the wall stuff.

...the guy is wearing rags, but he has hundreds of septims worth of stuff like that to give to me? :teehee:
