Quest text passes too fast.

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 4:46 am

I have created mods before, and saved a muted voice to extend the length the text is displayed without issue.

I have created a new mod, and when testing the text delay ingame, the text vanishes almost instantly, almost as though I dont have a recorded sound file.

Can anyone see any issue with the settings there?

This is outlined on almost every tutorial and a search would have brought up more than you need to know (and faster than starting a new thread).

In short, use the dialogue to insert blank sound clips. (Use the CK recorder).

Edit: I know you said you had blank sound clips, but i don't know if you used a 3rd party software. It works for me just pressing the record button for a few seconds.

If Id used a third party piece of software I would have mentioned it...

As I already said in my original post. I have done previous mods before which have worked without any issue, but this time around when I recorded the sound, using the CK the quest acts as though no sound is assigned and instant skips the quest parts. I have re-recorded the sounds to make sure there wasnt a mis-click on my behalf.

I posted that here, with the attached screenshot hoping someone with more experience could point me in the correct direction, or (if is highly likely) notify me or a certain bug existing in the CK which causes this issue.

It looks like your voice files may not be in the right place--the CK isn't finding them. Those "N"'s next to the voicetype and expected file name mean there is no .wav or other sound file, or .lip file, in the expected directory with the expected filenames.

UAC youve done it again! :drag:
Run your CK as an admin and try. If what DreamKing is saying is true, then most likely it is having issues saving them once you record, in which case, the UAC is most likely the issue, as it has been for numerous other saving issues.

I'm going to point the silly obvious thing, but who knows : You didn't forget to press the "Save" button after recording your sound ?

This! I easily missed this part first time through.

Thank you Dream. Not sure why I was having that issue, but now I know how to identify the problem. It was not something that I was notified of during tutorials that I followed.

To Paladinrider, please read the thread before you comment in future. Your hostile advice to new users is not the sort of behaviour that should be going on in this forum. Your 'advice' was far from helpful and totally inaccurate. Thankfully the other members of the community were able to provide advice and support without being so condescending.

Your comments on the other thread
Now here's hoping that in the future people with the same problem will search and find this thread before starting a new identical thread

just go to show how childish you were behaving (made all the more laughable by the fact that the issue that user had was not even resolved the same way I resolved mine).

Whoa.. Easy there. I think you are severely misinterpreting my attitude. I am in no way being hostile, I was actually trying to help. That quote from another thread which you have completely taken out of context is congratulating the OP for solving the problem on his own accord. It was absolutely not a jab at you. I thought that his solution may be applicable to your problem.

I apologize if I come off as rude or abrupt, but you cannot judge attitude on a message forum. I also apologize for trying to help - I do not know every answer to every problem so I can only offer hints that may be of help.

EDIT: In fact, I believe I actually posted the wrong link. I had meant to post another thread I was involved in that was a similar issue as you had. This one is, as you pointed out, unrelated. I'm going to see if I can find the thread I had intended to link to you - my apologies again.
