Question about Conjuration staffs. : V

Will staffs (in this case, Sanguine's Rose) raise Conjuration level? Couldn't find anything on the UESP.

I just Googled this "do you gain xp for using staffs in skyrim", and based on the evidence I gathered from 2 or 3 sources, my conclusion is, no, you don't gain xp for using staves in skyrim. I have used staves a little bit and I didn't get any skill gain from them. I'm pretty sure I'm right.
