Question about domains and one specific daddy

Hi everyone.
First I'd like to introduce myself. I am a big big big so called "newb" or "noob" or whatever is called when it comes to domains and subdomains and stuff like that.
I use to be smarter...but as the world grows I get left behind and now I find myself completely outside the box.
I recently bought a www.website.info from a specific daddy company.
Here's how i had things figured out in my head. An X company has 100 servers and they sell www.websites.[whatever] to people and they host them on their servers.
Now since i bought this..i thought i could go into Cpanel and upload joomla or droopal...or some other 3rd party content manager.
Problem is this daddy host made things so complicated its hard for me to learn my way without wanting to strangle someone's cat.
From what i understand on their website, i just bought the name, and if I want it hosted, I need to buy some space on some server. HUH?
So I'm kinda lost.
Who has had to deal with them before, can you help a poor uneducated in the mysteries of website management and since I'm here, which one do you prefer, joomla or droopal, or the standard that comes with?
I am aware of the fact that this forum is probably not the right place to ask, but on most of the other specialized forums, i get the warm and cuddly " OMG, you don't know this and that, you're a total newb, I'm a 1337, can't talk to you" response.
Thank you for reading this and if you can help me, here or on PM's I'd be grateful. Last resort, the forum of the game (III) on which i spent 6 years playing, hmmm...not at all weird :(

It depends what you want it for, if you're handling a lot of content that will need categorising you might try joomla or drupal but if you're as out of practice as you claim then they're actually hard to manage and very hard to skin. You might try wordpress if your site is more focussed and about one specific thing. It's true that registering a domain is not the same as hosting it. It's much easier if you register a domain with your host though in most cases because your domain will be automatically linked to their name servers in the way it gets its DNS number.

Some hosts are very expensive and some are not.
