A question about "Maybe"

Ok Chris I have had this on the back burner of my mind for years, the song Maybe by the Ink Spots. Did the song inspire the main backbone of the story that is Fallout or was it just a coincidence? Because when I played through Fallout for the 3rd and 4th time years back, I would always sing that lovely song in my head and the lyrics popped at me and I had to question it.

Maybe you'll think of me when you are all alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you
Will prove untrue, then what will you do?

Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say "Maybe"

That is dead on to the feeling of the Vault Dweller. He being all alone in his adventure to save his home. Knowing that Vault 13 is waiting for him. Vault 13 does prove untrue to him and what did he do? ;) And in the last scene, the Vault Dweller walks away defeated. You can tell from his head bowed that he was crushed and in a very honest possibility he would have asked himself if they wished he come back again and knowing from all the pain he endured until his final judgment that in his heart he knew that just maybe, he'd say maybe.

The story and setting came first, the song followed.

I can't remember who picked the song. I think it was probably Jason and Leonard.

Well great choice indeed cause as I pointed out the song can be a clear reference to the game :D Image

Actually, the first choice for the Fallout 1 intro song was "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire", also by the Ink Spots (and eventually used in Fallout 3). gamesas couldn't get the rights, so they settled for "Maybe".
